So in 1970/71 we had proper pictures, 1972 no pictures and 1973 the start of those bloomin line drawings! Better than nothing, I suppose, but pictures much better.

Many thanks Paul for posting all the above scans. I have been discreetly dipping into Discuss O Mat whilst at work, quickly glancing through them all and having to surpress quite a few exclamations, as information slotted into place.

The Servis Mk55 was around in 1972!
The Philips 303 was around in 1973, plus we now have its 'AAC' model number!
The Candy C134 wasnt well liked was it!

When I have a mo, I will try and post some of the reports that I have, which tend to be from 1976 onwards. Will be photos of pages though and not scans - my computer is geriatric and to scan two magazines would take hours.

Automatic Parnall!

Wow - didn't know there was an automatic version of the Parnall - I thought there were only semi-autos.

Also the Frigidaire in the other thread! Made in the UK too - I knew these existed from the ads and I think they had the jet-cone, but has anyone ever seen one in real life? So three holy-grails to find - Servis, Parnall Auto and Frigidaire (and a 1502 while we're at it...)

Mark, you're right - it would be so good to go back and find some of these. An Aunt had that rear-control style Liberator, which she replaced with one of the earlier style Hotpoint Liberators. I remember seeing the old machine in a barn, alongside an old Speed Queen wringer...oh to go back in time for those...

Thanks again for posting these articles. My Nan had the Burco version of the Parnall washer, I haven't seen one since I was a small child so double thanks for posting!

Now that Parnall machine is "Futuristic"..I have a full page advert for the machine somewhere, but have been lazy recently, and need to get a scanner, but when i do, will scan it. The machine had a weird feature in the sense that it shook the drain hose to prevent any drips...don't ask me how, but they promote it on the advert !!

Paul, I have a press release artical for the "Radio & Electrical Trading" magazine from 1969 for the new line of machines that Hotpoint were launching, The New Hotpoint 1600 / Top loader 1504 & the 1469 Supermatic..I will dig it out and scan you the 1600 when i get round to buying a scanner..lol

Parnall features

Hi Keith

I'm really fascinated about the Parnall automatic - how long was it in production for? I know nothing about the Parnall company, apart from having some notion that there were taken over by Hotpoint - maybe you know more? I'm not sure where I got this from and I suspect it is not the case - a neighbour back home had a Parnall-branded front-loader in the late 70s early eighties, that looked like a rebranded Italian washer - any ideas?

The drip-free drain hose is hilarious and brings all sorts to mind - I'd love to know how they did this! Mind you, my Hotpoint Toploader can shake the whole laundry room let alone the hose when it goes off-balance in spin.

Concurring with Paul in Royton, it would be great to read up on the 1600, Especially the information issued at its and the 1504 etc introduction date (so it was released in 1969 and not 1970 then?).

Such a weird machine in that so little is known about it, so any information and piccies you are able to share would really be gratefully receieved.

On tenter hooks, but in suspended animation until you get a scanner. lol.

Am so sorry guys,

I got it totally wrong! Just spoke to my Mum.....she said my Nan's washer was a Parnall semi automatic bought around about 1956!....In my defense I was about 7 the last time I saw the machine! My Mum did say though, before my Nan bought the Parnall she used to hire a machine for a morning each week from a man who went round the streets with 6 washing machines on a horse drawn cart. You paid your money, he would bring the machine into the house for the morning and collect it in the afternoon!!!! Mum had no idea what machine it was he hired though.
 
I have however........

witnessed a Hotpoint 1600 in the flesh so to speak. One of my sisters friend's had one in her house. I must have been about 10yrs old and was amazed at such a machine....I origionally thought it was an Indesit as my aunty had a L5. Unfortunately it was not in operation.

Thank you for sharing this!! I didn't know that my favourite vintage washer (Indesit K5) was available in the UK!! Maybe she is not the best one of the test, but I'll bet she is the funniest to watch when she spins :))))))))
