Since PeteK is not retired, every day is treasure hunting day. It's still a weekend activity for me. Last week I posted pictures of that crazy lamp I found. This past Sunday, I made a pretty good haul as well. Remember late last year I said that I had acquired every chair that I ever admired instead of one and was hoping that one day I could score that final chair I love, the Arne Jacobsen designed egg chair. Well, we're barely into February and I already knocked it off my wish list. I drove down to Alexandria VA on Sunday to purchase and pick up this vintage beauty. First I drove to Vienna to pick up Appliguy Patrick who was my navigator to Alexandria. The place that had this for sale sold other vintage modern items but also manufactures it's own modern versions of various storage units and lamps. It's a very cool place and if you weren't a vintage snob like I am, you could really deck your place out in their stuff.

So the next three images are of the egg chair. The color was perfect. It tilts and swivels. Not a lot of these had a tilt option so that's a bonus.

But there was still room left in the van

So then on the way back to Vienna, Patrick steered us to some of his favorite antique places. He dug up two Better Homes and Gardens Home Improvement Ideas magazines for me from the years 1961 and 1962.

Then we stopped at another of his favorite places and it had two buildings but he said the one building was all antique antiques and there would be nothing there that would interest me. But I decided to give it a quick run-through anyway. And it was mostly stuff that doesn't interest me. But upstairs, tucked away in a corner was this treasure. A leopard skin coffee table with a glass top. This table matching the vintage "love seat" that I have in the tiki lounge. It had to have been manufactured by the same company. I didn't know such a thing existed. I had to take it home with me and incorporate into the tiki lounge.

The staging area

I placed it in my bedroom until I can rearrange things and get it to its final destination.

Hold On Maytag Mom, here comes the money shot

Now here's the best part. It has three stools/benches on wheels that roll out from under the table and may be use for seating around the table. What a concept. There is an old Sears label underneath one of the stools, so this table was purchased at Sears. Who woulda thought?

Two more recent acquisitions to put on display here.

First is a space age bar tools unit. Rocket shaped holder and four bar tools with astronaut handles. Date of manufacture unknown.

And finally...

And finally, one for Bethann, a turquoise cutting board. This had turquoise Formica on it with gold flecks in the turquoise. It may not seem like much, but I've never seen one before. It's possible it was even hand made instead of factory made.

OK, that's it

It's a lot of fun to hit antique/junk shops in outta state places instead of visited the same old usual places over and over and you never know what you might stumble across. Hmmm...where to go next weekend...

Mike...FABULOUS finds!

Congrats....esp on the Egg Chair...
I almost had a heart attack! You are sooooo lucky!

I know what you mean about hunting outside your usual territory...everything here is either junk not worth what the sellers want for it, or well...just plain overpriced.

NASA might be interested in that bar tool...LOL
(I have some vintage NASA stuff myself)

Trade ya my Oooga Booga Tiki Man?? lol

A garage sale find Maytagmom?

Wow, that thing is HUGE! I wish my tiki room was bigger. I have more stuff than I have room for display now.

Actually it's another

Given to me by a dear dear friend who passed away last year.
I cherish this Tiki, and hopefully my next move will put me in a home where I can have my own Tiki Lounge. Have wanted to do one for years.
Yes he is large, pretty heavy and carved out of one peice of solid wood. I have no idea what type, but I do know my friend had him for 30 yrs before giving him to me, about 4 yrs. ago.
I collect a few Tiki's and other kitsch when I can.
I too have more stuff than I have room for. Some call it eccentric or ecclectic...other people Oooh and Ahhh, and "Oh man, your place looks like a museum!". (More like Joe's Crab Shack to those of you who know the restraunt)
Enjoy your egg chair...I have to find me one someday!

One more thing vers...

A neighbor here has a boomerang coffee table I am dying to get my hands on. Would match your decor perfectly.
Has the brass around the end of the legs.
I want it...I want it...I WILL get it! :-)

I found this Westclox starburst electric wall clock the other day for $2.50. Driving home with it in the back seat Parker moved to the front seat and knocked one of the wooden bursts off, didn't damage it, just needs to be resoldered on.
