This website is in danger. I borrowed a digital camera again. Space limitations? It's just a way for the man to keep the people down.

A while back when I displayed an image of my cooktop, some people commented on my teapot collection. I mentioned that I was still on the hunt for the holy grail of teapots (for a Jetson era collector such as myself). Well, I scored it after a 3 year hunt. I did run across the smaller single serving version at a flea market once but didn't purchase it.

Ladies and Gentlemen, let me introduce the "Futurama" teapot.

Side View

You need the side view to truly appreciate the space age design. The picture didn't turn out so great, but it should give you the idea. And yes, the original sticker is still on it.

The Turquoise Teapot

The next two images are for Brown Eyed Girl.

Hello Brown Eyed Girl. How are you? Here is the teapot you own but it's in turquoise.

The Pig Teapot

OK, strike that. Only the last image was for Brown Eyed Girl. This one is for Bethann.

Hello Bethann. How are you? Here is a Pig Teapot in pink that I though you would enjoy. Sorry, but I am not your secret Santa

The Turquoise Westy

This image is for Retro Mom.

Hello Retromom. How are you? Here is a recent acquistion. It is the same toaster as yours, but it's in glorious turquoise. Thought you might enjoy checking out the variation.

The Turquoise Sharkfin

Here is the Roayal Haeger "shark fin" ashtray. I have a couple of these in Mandarin orange. I have never seen one in turquoise before and was lucky enough to aquire it.

That's all the pictures for now, but I'll probably be back with some more pictures tonight or tomorrow of recent aquistions.

Have a great weekend.

Hunting

Traditionally, I have built my collection through weekend flea market excursions. If it's Saturday or Sunday, I'm at the flea markets. However, for all intents and purposes, I just started a new job and the time I have to devote to work is ridiculous. I need the weekends right now to catch up with things at home.

So, that's a long winded way of saying that these recent purchases were made through eBay, not flea markets. Eventually my work schedule will lesson and I'll be out scouring the flea markets once again.

Anyway, Mr. Gansky, I'm going to have to plan a trip to Indiana to obtain a vintage washer some day.

The Jetsons tea kettle was made in Japan for Aluminum Housewares Co. Inc. It is called the Futurama and has a 2 and 1/2 quart capacity.

Awesome. Does the flying saucer take off once the water is heated and pour its contents into a tea cup? (Poor Rosie, she might get replaced).

Very cool teapot! I love the design and can see why you went after if for 3 years!

It's good to know my teapot has a twin in wonderful turquoise out there!

Oh, and the toaster is awesome looking, just thought you should know.

Love the Futura tea kettle, it sort of looks like a curling stone, if anyone knows what curling is.. LOL.

Here's a couple of things I picked up Mike,, don't want to start another thread...

Futurama

Pete, you can join in on a thread any time. I've jumped in on your threads often enough. I especially like the window you installed on the wall. You can look through it and check out how your vintage smalls are doing. Excellent idea. Very cool design and some very progressive out-of-the-box thinking.

Appnut, it does look like the teapot will take off at any moment. I'm afraid to use it to see if it will fly since it still has the original sticker on it.

Possible Hoover Convertible Score In The Offing

I spent the whole day yesterday moving furniture from one place to another, swapping this furniture from one place to another needy home and then from that one to another. It was so complex that I actually had to put together a project plan for it. In the end, everybody was happy and ended up with good stuff that they wanted and I ended up with a happy GF and some happy friends and got some stuff out of my basement. I only had to drop off a cheap plastic table and chairs at the Salvation army when it was all said and done and saved some awesome stuff from the dump.

The first stop was at a place where a guy was getting rid of about a 12 piece high end vintage rattan set. And I mean high end. The pieces filled up a huge box truck. This guy has an old stone mill on his property that was built in the 1800s and was being used for years as a publishing company (he recently retired from his magazine business). The guy said we could raid the mill and scavenge whatever we wanted so I came home with boxes of printer paper, a scanner, hard to find light bulbs that I needed for vintage lamps, etc. etc. After we loaded the booty, I noticed two old vacuum cleaners sitting there. One was I forget what it was. And then I saw the other one and had a flashback to when Appliguy Patrick visited me...

"Versa, I love your place and I think you're a very nice guy, so I'm going to be straight with you. You got it going on but you will never ever truly be accepted at automaticwasher.org until you get a cool vacuum cleaner."

"Fair enough" I said. "What do you recommend?"

"Well, I've taken room measurements, got down on your floors and measured the carpet depths, measured the air quality, groomed your cats and checked out your 200 Amp Service. I recommend a Hoover Convertible."

One of the vacs was a sky blue Hoover Convertible. I asked the guy if the vacs were up for grabs. He said he had to consult with the maid first. Whichever one she didn't use was mine for the taking. He'd call me. So I have my fingers crossed. If the Hoover is all that and a bag of cat hair, that's the one she's probably using. But maybe I'll get lucky and score the Hoover for the price of zero. One can only hope.

So here's the last of my recent aquisitons

Remember when I asked about the Tip-Toe-Matic in this forum. A local person had it up for auction on eBay. I bid 20 bucks and won it. It looks great in my laundry room. By the way, it's in beautiful conditon. I didn't even give it a once-over with Fantastik yet.

A new cone chair

A while back I displayed a green Cone Chair in this forum. Well, I'm the proud owner of another vintage Cone Chair in wonderful original condition. This one is red.

Bartering is alive and well

I spoke earlier of raiding this ex-publisher's place yesterday. He had this wonderful tripod floor lamp in the corner of his basement. I asked him about it. He said it was in the place when he moved in many years ago. His girlfriend is a health nut and he's trying to quit smoking. She was going to be out for the rest of the day and wanted to watch a football game and have a smoke or two or three behind her back. He said he'd trade the lamp for three cigarettes. The deal was sealed. It needs a little love, but it will be a great lamp.

Finally...

Speaking of lamps. I was addicted to lamps and there was an intervention this year and I'm better now. Everything's cool. Problem is I replaced it with a chair addiction. And chairs are a lot more expensive than lamps and harder to hide from your detractors. This is a cry for help.

Having said that, this was my most economincal iconic chair purchase to date. I had been browsing eBay for chairs designed by Warren Platner for Knoll in 1966 as they would fit right in to my decor. I found a listing on eBay for two of them in red, matching my decor and was shocked to find that the guy selling them was local. Still, not being wealthy, I only bid what I could afford on the chance I'd get lucky. Well I did get lucky and picked them up yesterday.

The side view:

Turns out this guy had worked for Knoll a couple of years back and they were renovating their "museam" and didn't have room for all the stuff and just gave him some classic vintage Knoll pieces. He sold two upholstered in black at the same time and they went for double what I paid for the two red ones.

The metail is nickel and will shine up like a mirror. Some of the foam is getting powdery which is bad but good in that it dates the piece well. They need a little love but nothing I can't handle on a free weekend.
