Hamilton Claims "where automatic washdays were first made possible"

I rankled when I read that, since, as we all know, Bendix was the worlds first automatic washer!

But in re-reading it carefully, their claim relates to "washdays" not "washers" and so since they invented the automatic dryer I guess their claim is valid!
Smart copy writer there! That one knew his/her stuff.

Jetcone Jon...

Its all in the wording!!! same thing happens to me when I see Miele promote the fact that they made the first Computerised washing machine...The first was actually Servis UK in 1976...produced late 1975 and then shown at a trade show and then for sale...little old private company Servis from Darlaston, West Midlands led the laundry world....who`d have thought...

NOWTHEN before the "M" diehards spit their dentures out...the M`s where the first Computerised Washer AND Tumble Dryer....but not the first washer alone...

Marketing...get away with anything until you mention litigation!!!...LOl

Excuse me BUT!

Now Mike i dont want to be picky.....but you see any mechanical timer that switches current off and on is operating a mechanical logic thus it is a very primitive form of computer!.......so to me the very first washing machine to use such a device should really lay claim to that title ;-)

So what's under the hood

It looks like the classic 4 paddle Norger in the drawings--one of these in the pic below used in both the automatics and the wringers.

Jon, remember when some of us were kids and Darren on "Bewtiched" was an ad man, and we learned how advertising plays fast and loose with the truth, and how stunned we were. You mean they can just lie?!

And then only last winter, our friend Bradross posted as ad for an Easy that claimed to have water enter from the bottom of the jetcone--NO FAUCETS-- No one has seen or heard of this machine. (Yes there are faucetless Easies but they can't supply water.) Still nada, even after a Libraray of Congress search by our Thomas.

PS: I love the English tickling we're getting today. I won't even try to compete.

Don't get your panties in a bunch...

Mike, I think you missed something. Miele never claimed that they built the first computerized washing machine. But in 1978 they claimed they launched the first computer controlled washer (dryer and dishwasher) with sensor controls. More smart copy writing... LOL

BTW, here is the link to a thread in the archives about the first Servis computerized washing machine.

Mechanical Keymatic...

Jon, Mechanical Computer....not thought of it like that, always think of it as a cam reader linked to a mechanical timer...I was thinking fist Quartz Silicone "Chip" being used etc!!!

I changed the pressure pot & tubing on dads Quartz (1986)model last week as it had cracked & perished. overfilling & flooding the kitchen...and just observed how well made they are, with the flat ribbon from the computer board to the control panel...Oh what they could be today if not for mergers & aquisitions!!!
