Spotted this on Tuesday night, exterior looks in very good condition & would make a good everyday machine despite its age, if it were to be looked after & not used too heavily.

Slightly ambitious price, i paid £25.00 for my Z9292T that works fine. But then new machines are £200 or more i suppose, and that Z9191T will probably last a damn sight longer than anything in Currys!

Too far for me, typically.

BTW Tom, where have you been lately? Not seen you on msn in ages!

Are parts still available for these machines? How old would you say it is?

Parts seem to be fairly readily available, bearings, pumps, door seals. I believe the motors are now obsolete & i'm not sure how easy it'd be to find programmer parts, but there are still a few of these machines in use so donor machines are within the realms of possibility.

My machine of the same generation (next model up) dates from November 1984 so i'd say it could be within a year either side of this.

Programmer/timer still available for this model, but expensive. As Liam says the motors are no longer available, but they are much more reliable than today's brush motors. Just make sure you position the timer in the correct place if selecting spin only, failing to do so could cause damage to the motor/clutch.

My example was produced in April 1986 so was one of the later ones. I think the grey fascia machines started to take over soon after this.

How come it can damage the motor?

Standard induction motors don't have the starting torque that brush motors have. With a full load the motor cannot accelerate to 1000rpm from standstill. Instead you'll get a very hot smell which means the motor windings have burnt out. There is a warning about aligning the timer properly on relavent Zanussi machines.

Later machines had a safety cut out to prevent this happening, but it's really not worth trying it to find out!

Great machine but to far way from me or I'd get it. When did Zanussi stop using induction motors?. I have a FL 1022M, would that have an induction motor?

Rich, Im not sure of the exact year Zanussi stopped using induction motors, but they were phased out during the production of the dark grey panelled machines, such as my FL1012 & your FL1022M.

My 1000rpm machine uses a brush motor, but the Washer Dryer version (WD1012) uses an induction motor. I would hazard a guess that yours has a brush motor like mine, but there are a couple of giveaways on the machine.

1. Does it have a sticker next to the programmer, warning you to line up the spin program exactly? If it does, it'll be an induction machine.

2. On final spin, when distributing, does the spin speed increase as soon as the program dial turns 500rpm or does the motor continue at distribute speed for a couple of seconds before responding? Usually the induction versions start to speed up as soon as the dial turns, whereas the brush motors respond more like todays machines, more gradually (as theyre fitted with some sort of speed control).

The induction versions had all been stopped by the time the light grey panelled range of machines went on sale, such as FJ1033, FL1032. These machines also had the newer drum with plastic paddles.

That machine looks wicked. I guess it's the double doored version of my FL1012. Did you get it off of eBay late last year? I saw one on eBay in Berkshire around this time? Im sure it wasn't in such nice condition though.

Hi Liam, I did get it of ebay last year for £26.00. It must be the same one, it was about 30mins from Newbury. In the ebay picture it didn't have it's top but when I picked it up they had found it plus I have given it a really good clean. Below is all the limescale that came out after two 60 washes and one 95. It washes really well and has great rinse levels.

Christ, that's quite alot of muck that came out there! That'll be the same machine i saw then! It looks much cleaner now.

I'm slightly puzzled why my FL1012 filter never seems to have anything in it, even after a 60 or 95 wash. It does look completely free of limescale in the drawer & round the edge of the drum, but it was used in Berkshire for years before i got it aswell, so you'd think it'd be caked in limescale.

If the former owners used a decent biological detergent and ran regular boil washes, limescale would never have built up, even in a hard water area.

My ZFL1023 Jetsystem (from the same generation as these models) was full of limescale, to the point at which the Jetsystem hardly worked when I first got it.

...it was an old couple i bought it off, so that would make sence, as it seems older people are (generally speaking) the more common users of high temperatures/traditional powders i would think?

hi guys,
never seen before a double door zanussi without temp dial ...
do these machines have the same kind of timer of the Washcrafts ? I mean : do they have 60°C colurfast with prewash too ?
