Victorian ‘mobile’ home takes a ride across the street

A few years ago I watched a TV show about houses and other buildings being moved. Some were quite large, and several were moved over 50 miles away from their original locations.

I have been watching the story on this house
The original plan was to move it a further distance from where it ended up, but since it was a two story house in the near downtown or mid-town area it would involve closing roads, getting easements, and removing power lines to do so. This is why they decided on the new location across the street from it's original address.
My sister used to own a house that was in Viola, 20 miles from Wichita. Her house was originally on the East side of town and was moved when they put the Canal route through back in the late 60s and 70s. Her's was a smaller house than this one and wasn't quite the undertaking.
Again I do praise the Quick Trip Corp for saving this house. Though it would have had some uprising if they demoed it, they would have recovered the bad press, but they chose to buy this house, donate it, and then pay to move it. This says a lot for historic preservation in my book.

The name of the television show that moved homes like this was called "Mega Movers".
Harley-- Go break in and take some photos for us! I would love to see the inside, given all the deluxe architectural features described in the video. What an undertaking; that house is huge.
QT has a really good reputation...apparently a reasonably good place to work which double-staffs their stores overnight for safety. Always a good place to stop in their areas.

While the house and it's recent move may be forgotten or never even known by future customers, it's a great gesture to the city and it's heritage for them to take such care and expense making sure they don't start off this location with controversy.
QT has been moving into our area for a while now, slowly but surely they are popping up all over town. Good store, fair prices on fuel and clean stores. All a good recipe for success in that business.

The QT in Mankato, MN (a college town) is also excellent. Their coffee is good, too. As has been mentioned, it's clean, well-staffed, well-stocked and always very busy.
