You mean as one assumes above the washer does not progress to the final rinse automatically there others whom do this as well.
My Miele for instance on all cycles except "Cottons/Normal" (Delicates, Permanent Press, Woolens) the washer will complete all rinses but stop after the final one.
There are two ways around this: one is to press the "Short Spin/Rinse Hold" button *before* the timer reaches that point (say when starting the cycle), or afterwards when one wishes the machine to complete.
There are several reasons for this odd set up.
Miele thought that housewives may not wish certain items spun even with short spins. By stopping the cycles after the rinse one could select "Drain" and remove whatever items from the machine once all water was gone.
The other is by using "Rinse Hold" one didn't have to worry about spun (even gently)laundry remaining in the washer for long periods if one was away/cannot get back to remove the load when cycle ended. This prevents creases from setting in.
Will often use the latter if the washer has reached the final rinse in say "Normal", but one has to run out for something and cannot be around for the final spin. One moves the selector knob from "Normal" to "Permanent Press" during the 5th rinse (water levels and drum rotations are the same). This will cause the timer to stop at the end of the final rinse. When one returns I simply move the timer back to "Normal" and the timer proceeds as usual. If I merely pushed the "Rinse Hold" button the wash would only go through a series of pulse spins then end, no final high speed spin.
