The amazing story
Yesterday, I found out about a warehouse in the city of Buffalo that is the last stop for most discarded machines. Waiting for a few friends and family who were coming by to help me prepare for the Christmas party, I decided, on pure whim and impulse to check the place out. Not seeing where to get in, since the drive-up area had docks with trucks locked onto their openings, I was walking around looking for the entrance. Suddenly two dudes appeared out of nowhere to find me holding a GE 16 ramp agi which I had brought along hoping to find an 18. They thought I had robbed it and was casing the place.
I told them I was a washer freak, disarming them with kindness, and they took me on a tour. I was in awe. Hundreds--HUNDREDS!-- of machines, mainly WP KM GE KA. But in the dimly lit lower level, along a row of coin-op GE's, there, there, (suspense) all alone, shining in chrome but with a completely crushed faucet on its drain hose, was a Kenmore Visamatic. I could not believe it. We wheeled it to a receptacle, powered it up. Bingo! Perfect: pump agitate wring 2 speed; It needs a control knob for the timer. They were closing and invited me back on Tuesday. I'll ask if I can take pictures. What a Christmas gift this was. They're going to spruce it up and decide on a price.
I was high all day from that encounter. When I told people they just laughed and asked why do you like washers so much, and I said I have no idea.
Merry Christmas from Buffalo to Syracuse
You're only six minutes away on Santa's sleigh, ya know!
