I'd appreciate any tips from the experts on video camera technique. I bought a JVC GR-D770U MiniDV camera last week. It's an el-cheapo model as those things go, but even so I'm a bit disappointed. The built-in mic picks up a background whine from the tape transport, and there's apparently no facility for an external mic. Lighting, camera angles, composition, focus, all these things are tricky to get good results! I did some testing on a DishDrawer cycle a few days ago, had difficulty with lighting, camera angle, and glare on the plexiglass. Filmed a full cycle of 8 jeans in the IWL12. Focus comes out soft on the transfer (looks better on the camera's LCD), and the motion tends to be less smooth than I hoped.

Anyway, my main question is in regards to importing the video. No editing or capture software was included with the camera. I have an editing/video project program (why are all video editors so clunky and user un-friendly?), and I found a couple freebie FireWare capture programs that work fairly well, but I'm not knowing much about choosing a file format and codec for best quality .. or appropriate quality for online sharing.

Adobe Premiere Elements 3

You may want to check this program out. I started with Premiere Elements 1 and 2, then went onto Pro and Encore. You're able to capture, edit and burn to DVD. Additionally they have a very good user forum on the Adobe website that offers a lot of help and support.
