Vintage 1971 GE Range Stove - $300 (Fontaine Ave)

Ad: " Up for sale is a Vintage 1971 GE Freestanding Range. Year was determined by the serial number according to geappliances website. It all works great. Both Ovens, Lights, Electrical Outlets that are on the top, Clock, Self-Cleaning feature, etc. It is the Brown color of that era and is an enamel finish I believe. The smaller double oven is very convenient for side dishes and/or breads while the main dish is in the large oven. We're just updating the kitchen a little, but this is a well functioning oven and would look great in your kitchen, or a retro designed kitchen. Just been detailed cleaned inside also.

i LOVE it!!!

the "coppertone" brown, the dial knob burner settings, the big & small ovens, the self cleaning big oven!!! what's not to LOVE about this big coppertone beauty??!!??
unless of course it is one of them other-company built GE stoves that i've read about on other threads, that sandy is so hip about. but as far as i can tell, this thing is a BEAUTIFUL brown beast!!!!

This Coppertone range was built by GE itself, not by WCI.

It's a very nice range, but not everyone is crazy about Coppertone. For one thing, it's worse than stainless for showing every last fingerprint!

thank you for chiming in & letting me know that this stove is actually built by GE and not the other company WCI.

although, i've never heard about that company (i don't think?). but than again, i've never really had anyone else, to share with, or talk to, about vintage appliances & stoves. when i try to talk to my mom about it, her comment back is usually,
"it's old and if someone is selling it, than it's because there is something wrong with it. cuz if there wasn't anything wrong with it, they wouldn't be selling it" or "if you buy something old from someone, all you're doing is buying someone else's problem(s)".

so, trying to share any interest in older/vintage appliances is like looking for a swimming fish, out in the dessert!!!

so, i am seeing alot of appliances & things that i like & catch my eye. but i don't know anything about any of them. just what i read when i go through the newest threads for something that catches my eye.

i know, it's a pretty sad situation, trying to find someone who shares my interest of "old things", close to me. so, i am happy that i found this group and can get on here as much as possible to read, learn, see, & interact with others who love & appreciate vintage appliances too!!!

WCI stands for White Consolidated Industries, which began as an offshoot of the White Sewing Machine Company.

WCI was the company that bought Frigidaire from General Motors back in the '70s, and also bought Westinghouse's appliance division; the Westinghouse appliances were branded "White-Westinghouse." They were not known for quality, to put it as politely as possible. GE's involvement with WCI was something called "outshopping," where a company wants to offer a product, but does not want to make the product itself, for whatever reason. GE used WCI to build a 40-inch range after GE stopped making that size itself.

WCI is now Electrolux, and quality has improved. They still make Frigidaire and White-Westinghouse as well as the Electrolux brand of major appliances, and until recently, were still supplying GE with 40-inch ranges.

I like Copper; it, to me seems to be what I would choose if I couldn't make up my mind between Avocado & Gold (though I think Avocado right now is my favorite & what my kitchen & laundry room (at least the good 30-to-40-some-years ago--would be in!)...
