Ad: "Vintage General Electric GE P7 27" drop-in range Excellent Condition. The model # is on one of the attached pictures, it appears to be "J M950R1AY". The serial # is "SP444830G" which appears to mean it was manufactured in September 1973. The dimensions are roughly 27" width, 34" height, and 28" depth. feel free to contact me with any questions or offers.

The manufacturing date and year is coded into the serial number (not the model number) of the appliance. The serial numbers begin with two letters. The first letter identifies the month and the second letter identifies the year. The corresponding letters, months, and years are below. For example, if the serial number begins with the letters "FJ," the appliance was made in March of 1952.

Hmm....

Strange.

Either this thing is Almond, which makes the 1973 attribution off by around four years, or its very poor color rendition on a Harvest range. The photo is so lo-res I can't even make up my mind if the handle has the brushed-metal insert or the Ye Olde Fayke Woode Graine one.

My Guess....

....Would be Almond and Woode Graine, because so far as I know, GE had switched the handle insert over to Woode Graine by the time Almond came along. If anyone knows differently, I'm happy to be enlightened.

That color is interesting, because by the time GE introduced Almond (1977) they had switched from the 5-position pushbuttons to infinite heat rotary controls. I wonder if the photo is just so poor that the range is actually white?
