Do Older Window A/Cs Blow Colder Air
Not Necessarily, A/Cs that cool the air 20 or slightly more degrees per pass are generally MUCH LESS efficient and yes most older A/Cs are less efficient when it comes to running cost, many older A/Cs cost twice to as much as three times as much to run.
BUT there were quite a few Hi Efficiency A/Cs dating back to the 1950s and earlier and like modern units these A/Cs usually cooled the air passing through only 10-15 degrees per pass. These more efficient A/Cs not only produced a more comfortable room by not blasting out such cold air but lasted much longer than low efficiency units with over-sized compressors that ran high head pressures with undersized condensers.
Like inefficient frost-free refs from the 60s-the 70s, low efficiency window and central A/Cs that were actually used a lot did not last nearly as long, and while it is fun to turn on these older A/Cs and feel the frigid air blasting out it is like being obese and eating fried food and fatty red meats all day, it does not last.
We have a collection of about 10 classic A/Cs at the warehouse that includes both hi and low efficiency models.
