For that price you'd think they'd bother to change the light bulb! According to the serial number it's actually a 1975 model and I can tell you, these are still plenty common.

Was the RR-4D and RR-4DW the only models with the mechanical auto-defrost feature?
Phil, good question..I've actually been doing some research on all the RR sub models and this mechanical defrost function actually lasted up to the mid 80's! Here's the scoop:
The RR-7D (and later the 7DA) replaced the 4D/4DW with the new family styling and was still all-mechanical. Those clever Amana guys added a "Slo-Cook" setting by making the cam duty cycle 60/40 and using the N.O. switch contact to achieve this.
When the RR models went to a "B" suffix in '81 or so, the RR-5B replaced the 7DA and was pretty much identical (the 'off' position on the Cookmatic dial was removed which previously allowed you to use the main timer as an egg timer and the timer mechanism itself was simplified). AFAIK there was never a 5 or 5A.
When the chrome models were phased out around '82, a mechanical model was added to the RRL series to fill the gap. This was the RRL-5C. Same functionality as before but in RRL styling. The RRL-5D was the successor ('84? '85?) and about as bare bones as you could get. Just the slo-cook/defrost/full power knob, a timer knob, and ONE button...START.

Were these called "Cookmatic" or it was just those with the solid state controls?
It's interesting, from what I can find, when 'Cookmatic' was introduced, it was referred to as the "Cookmatic Power-Shift". If you wanted analog controls, you could buy an RR-7. If digital, an RR-9. Both had the variable slider, or "shifter".
I believe the 'Power-Shift' terminology was dropped when Amana realized they could just integrate the function into the control pad on the digital machines (thus, the 9T and 10). You still had the levels, and they stamped 'Cookmatic' on it.
This also appeared on the analog RR-8/8A, but never on the mechanical defrost machines. However, the 80's rolled around and maybe they were getting desperate, because all of a sudden they stamped 'Cookmatic' over the window of the RRL-5C and 5D. There's nothing variable about those models, but there you go.

Let me see. I'm counting on my fingers..... WhoAA ! That's way cheaper than the $2,000 model I <span style="text-decoration: underline;">almost bought</span> a couple weeks ago. I don't get it ! hmmmmmm.
Cuz $2,000 was way cheaper than the $6,000. I just know it was a good deal. I'm a gonna' have to pretend I dit-int see this $350 one. Ain't just no WAY it can be true.

Just found this one on eBay. What a deal! With prices this low, how can you pass it up? The economy must be entering a recession! It even says Free Delivery (anywhere???)...
