I messaged the seller today who confirmed they are still available. I asked for a price range and all she said was that she's had two offers--one for $500 and one for $375 and neither person showed up.

that dryer!

Is it just me, or does that dryer look like something that came out of a 1950's sci- fi movie.

That is the ugliest dryer I have ever seen. No wonder Bendix got out of the appliance business. With designs like that, people probably quit buying them.

Is that a front mounted exhaust on the upper right side? It looks as if there is possibly a filter in there which catches the lint. The perforations in the front of the contraption looks as if it is a place for the exhaust to possibly exit into the room.

Friends of our had that dryer paired with a 1955 Frigidaire washer. Note the deep throat for the dryer drum. I believe that the drum belt ran around that.

I doubt those prices were actual offers.

Bendix Dryer

That dryer is pretty neat, it must be about the first Bendix dryer ever, probably 1948-50.

 

It must have been painted to match the early 60s MT washer.

 

Those early Bendix dryers were not very fast drying, it does not say whether it is gas or electric.

I think that Greg reported on this dryer. The heat inlet was located at the front of the drum on the opposite side of the door from the lint filter so it sort of had the same problem that the early WP-made dryers had in that the hot air was not forced to make a full circuit through the drum full of tumbling laundry but just traveled from one side of the drum to the other taking the shortest path.

We had the 1950 Bendix Dryer

My dad bought the 1950 Bendix Dryer to go with the 1944 Bendix Washer. Helped out with my sister born in 1950 making a total of three kids. Four years later they had one more. The exhaust came out the front like on this machine, and my dad added a 4" duct that reversed and went out the back wall. I never understood what people were supposed to do besides what my dad did. I don't think there was an alternate exhaust on the back. The door on our machine was square and more simple than this machine but I believe otherwise it was the same. Most of the time my mom still hung out the laundry but the dryer was used when it rained.
