...foreign washers sold under u.s. names '85 and earlier.
Gathering parts at the dump in '82-83 several monkey wards
branded japanese twin tubs were found; two early '70s era
that i belive were made by sanyo-for the spin tub there
was a split-capacitor induction motor of probably 1700 rpm
direct coupled. On both of these it looked like cracked hoses
did them in-most of the hoses had lengthwise cracks where
they fit onto fittings,on one of the machines repairs to
the hoses had been attempted.
The third japanese twin tub was around late-'70s era and
many of the parts were branded"brother"so i think that is
the company that made it. the wash motors and drain pumps
were salvaged and put to use in other aplications:p
Besides the hitachi built GE portable "impeller"automatics,
found a similar machine made by matsushita, but the panel
was missing so don't know the brand, never seen any panasonic
sold here so presume it was "captive import".
The only captive import i have owned was a wards, possibly
sanyo built, portable dishwasher-it was rugged and reliable,
but VERY noisy.
besides the UK built speed queen twinnie several threads
down,any other "captive imports"'85-earlier?
