"It is sometimes very useful to have a Louisville Slugger by the door, handy to grab when unwelcome personages ring or knock."

Not a bad idea.

My worry: the people I want to chase off might, by some strange cosmic twist, have been classmates of mine in jr. high PE, and remember my near-perfect, 99.9999% record at bat! (That is, 99.9999% chance of striking out!)

Yeah Rich, it's not like I follow baseball closely, but I am loving that this team is comprised of cast-offs and misfits, and that prima donas need not apply. It would be awesome if they went all the way and perhaps launched a new MLB formula for putting together an actual team, not a juiced-up group of individuals out for their own personal gain. Plus, as a victim of the SBC takeover of Pacific Bell (the company that helped build the Giants' ball park in the first place) and later AT&T, I don't have any use for much of anything that comes out of Texas. SBC wanted to back out of the Pacific Bell Park deal after they took over, but it was too late. I'll bet they're liking the free advertising that AT&T has been getting this post-season. Don't get me started on the short-sightedness of those swaggering cowboys. Go Giants indeed!

OK, rant over. I gotta find me some tubular bells!

We had a solicitor come by one time and while I was trying to get rid of her she abruptly opened the storm door and out all of our dogs went. One of them ran down the street. I had to go chase him.
Our dogs are trained not to go out the door until I open it and say OK. But having someone from the other side freaked them out.
I was very angry at her.

At Halloween I love to keep the door closed and then abruptly open it, revealing our 4 large dogs. You can hear all the kids scream, and some even run away! But the dogs are good with kids and would probably lick them to death. (labs & Ridgeback mix).

I saw on the news tonight that some areas of the country have laws preventing kids over 12 to go trick or treating. Unfortunately, they are rarely enforced.
