During the Summer I miss the vintage scent of Downy from the 70's and 80's. The new April Fresh doesn't remind me of my childhood at all. Are there any fragrances out there that smell like vintage Downy? I have found a Glade Carpet Powder that slightly has that scent, but nothing else has come close.

Non-Concentrated Downy

I have been buying the non-concentrated version of Downy, (April Fresh). Give it a try. It is somewhat similar to Downy
of yesteryear.

I totally agree and love the scent of vintage Downy. We found Plus Fabric Softener to have almost exactly the same scent as 70s/early 80s Downy. You can find it at Mills Fleet-Farm. Its all I buy much of anymore.

Robert Thanks for the tip. I still use the new APril Fresh Downy. I hate all the other stinky ones out there. However, you have to try the Costco, (Kirkland brand). It has a ver nice lavender scent, and keeps the towels absorbent.

I've found one at our Save-a-Lot that is very much like what Robert showed in his picture. Very much like vintage Downey.. It is called Angel Fresh! I love it, great smell, very thin and does tend to clog up the dispenser.

Thanks...

We have a Save-a-Lot here. I'll look for the Angel Fresh there. We don't have a Mills-Fleet Farm nearby. Is there any place that sells it on-line?

I braved going to the side of the city that has a Save-A-Lot. It was an interesting lunch hour.

They had both the regular 20 loads and the concentrated 40 loads for the same $2.69 price...felt a bit ripped off for buying the traditional water downed version, but got it home and it does smell like Downey that I remember, but we didn't used Downy a lot back in the 80s. Had a decent post-dryer smell too. Worth the $3 and life-threatening drive (kidding) to go get it.

The concentrated one seem to have a bit stronger, but same scent--may try that one next time to see if it's the same. I noticed the "flower" cap that is on so many store brands such as Target was on the concentrated one.

I'm wondering if detergent mfg.'s do indeed sell there fragrances? The Target Up and Up detergent scent is nearly identical to Dynamo of the 80s and now this...hmmmm.....

Dan, I am glad that you were able to find it. I believe it is the same thing that Robert found at Fleet and Farm. He had given me a bottle of that and I really liked it. I like the fact that it is thin "watery" It doesn't mess up the dispenser and seems to do a great job. I have never seen the concentrated form down here.

Robert,

How much of the Fleet Farm Plus fabric softener do you use per load? We did buy the blue Angora softener at Fleet Farm, and it has a nice smell also, especially on line dried bed linens.

And speaking of post-dryer smell. I've noticed if I leave the bed linens just super slightly damp from the dryer...I get more smell for a longer period of time. Just something I noticed. The things we do...

Valutime

I've looked everywhere here for one of the "Downys" mentioned. I have found a Valuetime Spring Scent Softener. Real watery, but has a slight scent of vintage Downy. It is made by Topco Associates LLC, Skokie IL. Oh well, I wish I could get the real thing.
