And lo and behold, there is a 3 speed version exactly like my parents had on Ebay right now. But the price is just outrageous along with the shipping! Vornado made a kajillion of these, so I am sure another one will pop up soon!
Ah yes, I remember the GE Hassock fan quite well. We had it when I was growing up back in the '60's. It put out LOTS of air in all different directions. I think the motor burnt out on it and it was trashed.
This is my Gaylord circulator with a 36 inch cast blade, electric air fresheners, and built in ozone generator. This fan has been in my family for generations but no one can tell me how or why this would have been used in a home setting which is the only place I remember it ever being used. I first saw this fan in my grandmother's barn when I was 3 or 4 years old. I remember it being used a few times @ my aunt/uncles home where it finally met it's death after several trips in to the repair shop. I recently replaced the motor as the original was long gone--my dad probably sold that for scrap!
I have several more including a Vornado, 16 inch Emerson,Hunter, and Westinghouse oscillators, Homart and Rex-Aire window fans but no pics of them at this time.
I have to Westy Mobilaire fans - one brown, one blue. Here's the brown:
Does anyone know how to get the back grates/covers off these things so they can be cleaned? Seems to be a rubber gasket going around, but I can figure how to get if off.
Kevin, I LOVE that Kenmore fan you got from the estate sale. Its so close to the one I'm looking for that I grew up with. It was on a stand like that one, i think it even had white wall tires. I remember the knobs were clear plastic and had little ridges around them. We only had 1 fan in the whole house and my mom would put that in the bedroom hallway blowing towards all of them. I would spend most of the summer sleeping on the floor in the hallway! That must be where my love of fans comes from.. Great find!!!!
