Hi. My wife and I recently purchased a house and in the basement was a vintage GE range. It is pretty old 1960’s maybe. There is a serial number which starts with HL that would correspond to May and the years could be 1982 1970 or 1954. I do not think it is 1982. Too old looking. I’m thinking not 1954 because it is self cleaning. Trying to see if it is 1970. I want to sell it but have no idea what would be a fair price. It is amazing condition. Not a mark on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

However.

If you like/ do not mind electric cooking, this is a solidly performing, well-made range. Nothing new comes close.

Parts are still fairly available, and there are many people
here who are experienced in servicing these ranges. The oven(s) in GE ranges of this era are excellent.

Please think twice.

For a GE, that is a beautiful self-cleaning range and I like that it has knobs for burner controls.  I've never been a fan of the push-button burner controls except the fat square type on the early '60s models.

I'm also not a big fan of electric cooking, but it does have its advantages, the most important one IMO being that electric doesn't heat up the kitchen the way gas stove-top cooking does.

This stove would serve you well if you're not hell-bent on a cheaply made new one that will match a planned kitchen remodel.  We used to stay at a tiny old beach getaway that a friend had, and there was a full size '40s gas range in the kitchen.  The heirs built a large new home in its place, but in the modern kitchen they made sure to plan around that old gas range.  They had it restored and it's a showpiece in that kitchen now.  Something to think about if you're planning a remodel.
