Vintage GE Toaster Ovens?

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

This is probably a mid-seventies model I got at a thrift store for 2$ but it works perfectly. It's US made.  It has a white "START" knob and a white sliding knob for the oven temp and toaster setting. This one still has the early-style thinner Bakelite side panels with handles extending on each side.

The model number is A4T93B

This one (that Paul gave me) is slightly newer than the previous one. It's a Canadian model but it still lacks the Celsius graduations for the oven. has a black "START" button but still a white slider. The Bakelite sides are the newer, thicker ones with a recessed handle and the fonts in the glass of the door changed again.

I also have one that I can't find where I left it! It's almost like this one but it does have oven temp in both °F and °C and it has a black slider rather than white.

They Really Suck The Juice!

We lived temporarily in an apartment complex where the apts didn't have individual meters for awhile in the early 80's. The landlord would just divide the electric bill from all units by how many units there were.

We had some horrendously high bills while living there. We asked the landlord why they are so high. His response "Everyone is using those darned toaster ovens and they really use a lot of electricity. If everyone would stop using them the bill would be a lot lower.".

We had a Dominion back in the mid 70s for awhile. It did ok. But it was a real pain to clean so after a year or two we gave it away.

The toaster oven uses LESS power than your range's oven. The landlord doesn't make sense.Good reason to have utilities metered by the UTILITY company-not the building owner. Most toaster ovens don't use any more power than a toaster.

Power consumption

That landlord was grasping at straws there. At <1500 watts a toaster oven costs between 15 and 20 cents per hour of run time. As tolivac points out this is less then a big oven draws by about 1/2 if the range is electric. Unless the tenets were running the appliances for hours a day the difference would be unnoticeable.

Using a toaster oven is a great way to save the cost of heating up the big oven for small meals. Even more savings in the Summer, I use mine out on my deck to prevent the excess heat from making the central AC work harder!

The correct answer from the landlord should have been "Those A/C units we have are so old people are running them full time just to keep cool." And they were ancient. They probably had a SEER of 1.0.
