DH, why not start looking for the flat top halogen carts that just plug in? (assuming your coil carts are removable. There were a bunch of different variations. The glass jar catches grease from the well of the downdraft. There should be a small hole at the bottom of the well. And yes the filter should slant and not stand straight.

The glass jar is for grease from the trough under the BBQ cartridge. So it means that one side of you Jennair is convertible. Many Jennairs had either one or both sides with the 2 burner cartridges. Smoothtop cartridges are still available but only in black and white. Fleabay is a good place to look for smoothtop sections still surrounded with SS, if that's your finish. I miss mine.
