"I have a super old, great shape vintage matching GE washing machine and dryer! They're heavy duty and work awesome!

The dryer has 3 cycle settings and 3 temperature settings. They all work great! It's a little loud, but it works very well and is in pretty excellent shape considering it's age - which I'd estimate at about 40 years old!

The washer is a little rougher, but works awesome! It's got several wash cycles and temp settings. It even has the old strainer that goes on top of the agitator, which shakes your detergent into the wash after it's filled with water! It's pretty neat-o!

The washer is 1969, probably a WA750E, the dryer is its 1970 slightly ritzier mate, the "Heavy Duty" shields tell the date. That Straight-6 Activator was designed expressly to hold a larger and more effective Mini-Basket; it should be replaced, when you get it home, with any Spiral Ramped alternative.

What's this straight-vane bias?  Lol.  I love my straight-vane GE, it's perhaps not as visually dramatic but it washes just as well if not a little better, especially with smaller loads.

Straight Vane Agitators Rule

I am in total agreement with Greg, straight vane agitators are MUCH more effective especially with large heavy loads, it is just common sense, curved vanes do little to really move and turn over heavy loads.

The only thing that made KMs Roto-Swirl agitators effective was the three straight outer sections on the vanes, and while agree that it is fun to watch light loads of clothing bob up and down with curvy vane agitators they are truly not the most effective way to wash large or heavy loads.

For a Non Dual-Action 1 piece agitator.

A straight vane is NOT the answer for good turnover! A curved vane agitator such as a Super Surgilator or current SQ agitator is the best alternative to a DAA. I would agree with John that ramp agitators do little more than make the clothes bob up and down.

Hi Nick, I agree with what you are saying, but I consider the wavy vain agitators be be essentially straight vain agitators because they have a vain that runs top to bottom, not twisting around the agitator.
