Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

vintage maytag unit

Looks to me like, IMHO, that it is a regular washer topped by a portable dryer on some sort of home wooden stand.....(i could be wrong....)

Full Size Washer, but.....

I think that they are both smaller sized laundry equipment. I have never seen a full sized Maytag Dryer of that vintage with a control on the front of the unit like this one has. If it was a full size unit, it would have a control panel on top. Note that the dryer is the same width as the washer.
I thought it was nice that Maytag made a downsized washer that looks like one of the full sized ones. They appear to be in great shape.
What is going on with that wooden stand?

In the 70s, they actually advertised in print, tv and their store displays the suggestion that you could stack a porta dryer over a full size washer, or you could use the porta washer if you needed the portability factor. There was a bona fide rack offered by the Maytag company for this purpose, however.

But if you have 220v or gas, a full sized dryer with a compact washer makes for MUCH quicker turn-around times..

Since a 110v dryer can take up to 2 hours!! and may need to have the washer load split into two dryer loads!

I loved the old vintage GE electric dryers that had 2 hour timers, and coulld be converted to 110v, at least they handled a full sized washer's load.

Here's a dumb question. The "pull-out" washer in the second link: wouldn't that put a lot of wear on the water input and discharge hoses? As in, potential risk of a really interesting flood?

The Maytag sysetm seems sensible, though being unable to use both components at once suggests it's not designed for families, but more for a single person or couple living in an apartment.
