Maytag orbital transmission, metal cover

Interesting point Greg I never really thought about it. I knew that that cover was weighted. I kind of assumed it might’ve been for noise reduction, but it probably is for balance purposes.

Do any of you Maytag experts know why Maytag made the cover so heavy maybe Ben or Dan or somebody knows.

Hey John (or anyone who knows) how can I override the lid switch on this washer? It's different from the regular topload Maytag. It has a few wires going to it plus it looks like the off balance switch is incorporated into it. I can't even see it in action because it stops before I can even get a peek inside.

30-year-old Maytag top load stack

Hi Greg, it is possible to bypass the lid switch of course Maytag use the silly dual lid switch system on this machine and the small switch fails pretty regularly so we bypass that anyway, but you can completely bypass it if you want, I guess it just depends whether you want to modify the machine or not when you Sell it if you don’t keep it.

Will the new whirlpool stack last 30 years?

We’ll just have to stick around and see you’ll definitely have less trouble with the whirlpool dryer than the Maytag dryer had We hardly ever have trouble with the dryers in the stacks until they are very old and had a lot of use. the Maytag washer part of the machine will hold up better than the new whirlpool but time will tell. I don’t have a crystal ball.

John
