As some of you have already seen, I was lucky enough to search Craigslist at just the right time and stumble across this beautiful and exactly matched pair (both built Dec. 1962), the A700 and it's DE701 mate. I brought them home Wednesday and was able to test the washer Friday afternoon to see...

Look at the timer, it had both timed dry & air fluff on the dial as well as regular, W'n'W, and Damp Dry electrnoic controlled cycles. For its time, this was extremely complicated. I believe Gansky1 at tone time had oe of these dryrs and the timer was a major issue, the reasion why he was able to acquire it. I could be wrong, but the complexity and reliability issues for this itmer design resulted in subsequent HOH Electronic conntrol dryers having the push-to-start "timer" with the regular, w'n'w, damp dry, and air fluff cycles. That's the best I can explain it.
I think there were a few Maytag dryers in the 80’s that had a electronic dry control along with a timed drying section. Maytag’s electronic dry control may have been sophisticated but was a little tricky to work on once it started acting up and would be even more tricky to work on with a timer built into it. This is the whole reason why I am going about putting together a customized Maytag dryer with a 408 auto dry timer, will offer the same features as the electronic dry control but with a bit more flexibility.

Sean, yes I realize that. My comments above were solely pertaining to center dial 'tags. Once the timers were moved to the right side of the panel, the opportunities were great.
These were neat, Maytag didn’t work the bugs out of it enough like most products that they brought out and I never saw one that worked until I heard that Greg Nunn had one that actually worked fully, we assume that yours works Fully Dan.
Maytag worked plugs out and made it a little simpler this machine was really not so complicated but it had the added cost of having a timer plus an electronic control something that millions of other drivers have done later.
A Maytag electronic control dryer I would love to find is there water Condenser dryer, this was a really sophisticated machine and it was neat because it had a much better dryer design than the HOH dryers it had a much larger drum. I have the earlier version with just a timer of this water condensing dryer and it’s a pretty good performer.
John, wasn’t there a Maytag water condenser that popped up for sale sometime in the recent past? Saw a pink water condenser Maytag dryer from the early 60’s while surfing through the archives and had a model number of DE701-W, if I remember correctly.
I'm no Monty Hall, but do I have some deals for you! It's time for a purge in Waterloo and I've got some appliances that I'm hoping to find homes for. Please, please, private message me through AW if you are interested in any thing I've posted, or for those CL ads feel free to respond to those...
I believe I have the factory service info around here somewhere on the early HOH electronic control models. I'll dig for it the next couple of days and scan it to the pink forum.
