Vintage Maytag Washer Dryer Pair Going Cheap!

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

There's that pesky "gold" control panel color. I like the blue one better. Anyway, this machine appears to be a suds saver model and 1-speed. Electronic control dry dryer. Someone save these.

washer is an a608 non suds saversame as a606 except this was the Jimmy Carter model. 606's had 3 temp selections h/w w/c c/c...the DOE under Carter mandated that all machines HAD to offer cold rinses with all temps.

u can tell the difference easily 606 vs.608
606 left to right buttons
COLD WARM HOT (CENTER DIAL) REGULAR ACTION GENTLE ACTION
SMALL MEDIUM NORMAL LARGE

606s (SUDS SAVER)
DRAIN SUDS SAVE SUDS (TO LEFT OF TEMPS)

608 left to right buttons
h/w h/c w/c c/c (CENTER DIAL) regular action gentle action
small load/ medium load /large load /exlarge load

608s (SUDS SAVER)
HOT / WARM / COLD / DRAIN SUDS /SAVE SUDS

and another thought

original 606 machines (1960's) did not have permanent press, and had 3 water levels (SMALL/NORMAL/LARGE) and had a 14 min washtime w/ 45 sec timer increments.

Maytag refers, in there service literature to "06" modles w/ PP and w/o PP

when the 606 w/ PP was intro'd the regular cycle had 10 mins of wash and added the 4th water level and both 606 and 608 machines used 1 min timer increments.

606 machines never had a bleach dispenser....u had to go to the 806 to get that. That bleach dispenser and how it diluted bleach for 4 mins is another story.

608's had a bleach dispenser (direct in) and late 806's also had direct in bleach dispensers.

SAVED!!!

Ok members...living in ohio I couldnt let this set go to the dump...I picked them up...Im not really a maytag guy..but anyone who is is free to mail me...If you have any interst and or questions...Thankx Tim

Im a GE kinda guy

My interests are Ge filter flos...dunno why but im facsinated by the things lol...this maytag set isnt bad they both work the previous owner never hooked the washer up to water..therefore it just "buzzed" and he thought it was broke he was testing it before he put it in his house.. he got it from one of those self storage places and didnt know if it worked... they are both scuffed up a bit...and the plastic bezel on the console is broke on the corner other than that complete. the tub has some rust stains anyone know a good way to get those stains out?

Washer of my childhood... of sorts

That washer looks identical to the model my mom bought in late 1977, in the super-capacity version. It ran til 1996, when the suspension gave way. My mom was always afraid of overloading the machine, so she did 1/2 loads using the highest water level, which made for many unbalanced spins...the springs just gave out!
Ours were harvest gold, and we had the matching electronic control dryer, the new style. It had a few repairs over its 19 year life, but was a very good dryer.
The 1996 model Maytags that replaced the 1977 models are not as good...Glad someone could save these!

Is the dryer finally G or E?

I dont think the ad. stated which..I would guess gas in a larger city....

People......

this is a slightly important detail! LOL and who was belly-aching that they never show the insides? a valid complaint!

A closer look

The washer is an A-608 and the dryer is an DE-606 "electric" Im actually located a little west of Cleveland ohio...south bend is nearly four hours from me as well..what kind of ge filter flo's do you have?
