I know we have some fan collectors in the group, do you have any pedestal fan in your collection? I run a fan almost year round, I can't stand for my room to be hot, and Eric's mom being elderly has the thermostat set anywhere from 75 to 80.  I also like the sound.  If I sleep at someones house, I have to either ask them for a fan, or bring one of my own.

I'd love to have at least one, but they usually go for crazy $$ nowadays. I almost had a late 1930's Emerson 77648 pedestal until the seller on ebay realized that his $50 educated guess of a shipping quote was actually $250, and he immediately refunded my money without contacting me. I would have paid it! That brings up another issue. Old pedestal fans are EXPENSIVE to ship, unless you're lucky to find one nearby. We don't have that kind of luck on the west coast since most here are too quick to throw stuff away.

*Sigh*

For now, it's vintage 16" desk fans placed on table trays in front of windows/sliding doors along with a few 12" Emerson fans placed on furniture for the living areas. Eh, it works.

Dan, do you mean to tell me you have no central A/C?  In Pleasanton????

When I was commuting from San Ramon on hot (as in triple digit) summer days, without fail the highest outdoor temperature readings on my car's instrument panel were registered while passing through Pleasanton.

It seems that whenever I see a vintage or substantial pedestal fan in my thrift store adventures, they are marked "not for sale."

My ex-boss has the cutest little pedestal fan, probably 6 or 8 inches in diameter, cloth covered cord.  The base was a cross, the only time you could feel the air from it is if you stood directly in front of it.

!!!!!!!!!!!!

!!!!!!!!

That pedestal fan in the first post! I know where one is! Antique store called Brass Armadillo just off the HW about 10 minutes up from us!

if I recall it was kind of expensive (like over $100) and was corroded pretty badly. But Ive seen fans completely encased in rust and corrosion restored to look completely new.

Mobilaire!

I love a Mobilaire fan, the design is top-notch and they MOVE some air. We had one at home, and every room in my elementary school as well. Yes, my elementary school only had air conditioning in the library. Yes, I am dating myself! LOL.

Anyway, they can be had if you watch closely. And they last forever. Or almost!

It would seem if you like pedistal fans-you would need to look for them from commercial or other large institutions that have large rooms or areas-the table fans are more for at home.At the transmitter site here-I could easily round up a dozen pedistal fans-typically 24-36 in.And they are going in the summer. All types of brands-and vintages.I have a few 24"floor fans at home-and use the one in the bedroom year round.like the sound and the moving air.even in winter while sleeping don't like stagnant air.

I have seen a picture of a beautiful pedestal fan called an Air Fountain; even the name sounds cool. Anyway, it was a pedestal fan, but the blades were directed UP and it looked more like a torchere or an old floor lamp that did not use a shade. It worked like a ceiling fan without the installation factor. It is smaller and probably noiser, but still that name has appeal.
