A friend on another forum hit me up with this request. See pics below. He has a Philco fridge, I don't know the year. He just bought some parts for it and the plastic chiller tray that slides under the freezer arrived broken. Does anyone have one for sale? Additionally, it was packaged by the UPS store and therefore is covered by their insurance. He needs a value for the part - anyone know a fair value on this? These parts are very arbitrary to price out, one guy told him $150 and I said that is probably fair: if one came on ebay the price could be dirt cheap or outrageous depending on how many people are looking for the part. Thoughts?

David:

Usually, if you purchase a collectible item online and it is broken in shipment, the carrier will pay only what you paid for the item if it is covered by insurance.

This can be very fair - if you paid a "going rate" for something, you get about enough money to buy another. If you got something very cheap, the money you get may or may not buy another.

Worst case scenario is if you got something really rare very cheap. You're out the item, and there's not much of a chance you'll ever find another that cheap.

Yeah, I know. I just posted his question, not sure what he paid and didn't ask. There were other parts shipped as well that are OK. I do know that finding a replacement will be difficult. The kicker here is that the UPS store actually did the packaging so it should have been packed properly.
