FRIGIDAIRE TOUCH-N-COOK RANGE
The Touch-N-Cook ranges were the first dialless, knobless ranges ever made(circa 1973)and were ,at that time a great leap for FRIGIDAIRE.They were fun and worked great as you can see here with this 40+Year old model.I had the honor of having three different ones in my life. The first one I found, along with a Custom Imperial Jet Action 1-18 washer and Flowing Heat dryer, dishwasher, three door refrigerator with the radio/tape recorder/player on the upper freezer door, and trash compactor. All FRIGIDAIRE,all Custom Imperial and all in Poppy Red in Florida on a yaught that belonged to the Finklesteins. They,at that time, were the owners of IHOP.They were real nice and wanted to change their entire kitchen to make it Kosher.I sold them a complete set of Kitchen Aid appliances and they GAVE me the FRIGIDAIRES!!!I had a house I was renting from a friend and we worked out my installing them. I lived there 4 years and left them with her.had I not been moving from Hollywood,Florida to Orlando, I would have kept them but she gave me $1100 for them and that paid for my nove.Ms.Finklestein pulled me aside as I was showing them the K'Aids and said she hated the red appliances because they reminded her of a horrible car accident involving their red Mercedes and a red pick up.They servived unharmed but the truck owner and his teenage son who was driving both died from 2nd and t degree burns.Ms Finklestein gave all of us free coupons for IHOP for a month!By the way, this was the only one of the three I got that had a see through(smoked glass)oven door.So the set was from around 1977-1978.All worked and looked unused!
In Orlando, I worked at a Maytag sales and service center. We got a Touch-N cook range from a customer who replaced it with a Thermadoor. It was harvest gold and I had it in the store for years untill a friend needed it and gave me $500 for it.
Three days later, another one came to us that needed a new thermostat. That one was white.I repaired it and sold it for $500.
Using it was fun and it was my first smooth top experience.I realy liked the ease of operation and style. However,we have come a long way, haven't we?A brand new one in 1978 retailed for $799.The GE I had(JBP83C)retiled for $1399. I got it at The Great Indoors(SEARS Holding)for only $399 and sold it when I moved for $1000!The warranty was still in efect another year.Awesome convection range!!!
