This could almost be a Phoenix ad...

about 2 weeks ago, this same full set plus drop-in Custom 30 range was for sale out here. Also Stainless.

I love the vintage stainless; the new stuff just looks cheap in comparison. I'm not surprised though, as I've pretty much lost my faith in any of the new appliances.

Jason, take a look at PhilRs '63

Custom Imperial Fridge. Full on brushed chrome doors. I have the same fridge in turquoise and would happily swap doors with him. It's an IMPRESSIVE looking appliance.

I've seen it. It's a beautiful appliance. Your turquoise fridge is also swanky. They just really don't put that much thought into appliances any more. It kills me.

I just got the same but with a small glass in the upper oven window. Also, it lacks the drip pan at the bottom of the oven, apparently because it's a Canadian model (and I'm wondering why they didn't include this here too!).

See the note stamped on the page 16 of the manual (picture 10).

Yeah...a different mindset back then--

A frigidaire like that in your home back in those days was almost sexist: Dad got the flashy Riviera to drive...Mom got the Custom Imperial for her shopping. But they really gave you something for your money then...

Here's mine.

And they did bother to translate the whole manual in French for those like me who understand French better but they stamped the exact same note in English on the French side... That's weird!

See again the page 16 on the picture 10, sorry for the blurred text, the pictures I scanned weren't blurred but they are when I upload them:

I love that the manuals have tips and tricks for cooking. Our manual for the '63 has it too. Well, it's a 1960 manual with an insert detailing the new control panel for 1963.

SO many manuals back then...

doubled as cook books. I've scrounged some VERY tasty recipes out of old Kitchenaid 4c mixer manuals...

Jason, that's interesting! They show the controls of the 1960 model in the 1963 instruction booklet! I wish I had it for my 1962 range to compare but I don't!

Here's the link to the clearer pics of my 1959 manual on Flickr. The link shows the first page but you can scroll by clicking the arrow on the left and see the larger version of each.

I don't think they issued a formal instruction manual for our '63.  I have the '60 manual with a folded double-sided sheet detailing the new '63 RD-39-63.

Jason, I have a 1962 Custom Imperial range that looks quite similar to your 1963 but in mid-1962, Canadian ranges changed and didn't look like US models anymore.

Pictures #1-2 show my early-1962 range, a RCIG-39C-62. The only differences between it and the US version is the color of the porcelain liner for the oven, the added "Surface" light (the US models have one), the lack of the "Speed Heat" which was discontinued here after 1959 and some extra fuses hidden behind the storage drawer.

The pics #3-4 show small parts a RCIG-309-63 (I spotted that one on a TV program recently!). These ranges had the same features as the previous model but a new control panel that doesn't look as nice, a Robertshaw Lux-Time timer and fuses relocated behind an access door on lower part of the control panel.

The pictures #5-6 show another RCIG-309-63 (note that it says "Imperial", not "Custom Imperial" just like the mid-1962 model which was also identified as "Imperial" but both still have the "CI" in their model number).

Finally, the pictures #7-8-9 show one of the 1963 Deluxe versions. I wish they had kept making ranges like the US ones in Canada as the US models look much better in my opinion.
