Looks like you had a good weekend. I'm liking the Keymatic pics, are the later keyplate readers open at the bottom? I've just had to go and have a look at mine as I thought it look different. I love the AEG, I didn't realise that they had the rinse tube, I'm guessing that the huge chrome arm swings over the spinner for water delivery. It looks well over engineered, how well do they wash?

Vintage Washer Meet in County Durham....

Hi Robert, thanks for the kind words, yes we have been short of mini meets for a while and just gotten our heads together to "Make it Happen" which is the best part....goes all to quickly though!!

Hi Ian, you and your keyplate / reader & timer where discussed, amazing how all those variations of the timers where produced, but like anything new updates are a must. I don't think the timer is open at the base..
ps, we discussed the servii spin cans and are sorting out a 111 , stripping a washtub for Gary`s wesher and spin can for you, am down at Johns shortly so will ring to meet!!

Really great recounting of the event Mike, thanks for all the fantastic photos and explanation of each. I'd love to fly over for one of these events, unfortunately it's not in the cards very soon.

Great to see you guys had a great time and belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you Darren!!

Cheers,
Kevin

Hi guys you are all welcome

It was great for you to come up and I'm glad you all had a good time !! It's given me the kick in the pants to get a few machines going. The keymatic the servis twin and the bendix model d !

I'll get some pictures up here too when I get a chance !!

I'm just about finished the goodies so big diet next week

Richard

Looks like you guys had a great time! Your tech is so different from ours.

In no particular order of importance...

Like the coffee set. Cool colour combo. Striking but not gaudy.

Servis SuperTwin: To what extent can the 2 tubs each be doing their own thing at the same time? Since it's 240v, I'd imagine more than can be done here on 120v.

AEG: I wonder if it really gives better rinsing for a given amount of water used. Wonder if it was ever employed in the US.

Bendix Washer/dryer combo: 240v as well? If so what're the dry times? A good bit better than our 120v models, I'd wager.... Damn that pesky Inverse Square Law!

Kenwood dishwasher: Is that really designed as a counter-top model? I think I want one! My back would be ever so grateful...

"Suet crust Steak Pie": I think I want to try that...

And i have to ask... your community centre has a slew of washer/dryer hook-ups for your machines? That is too cool.

As always, if there're threads on these machines already posted, don't rehash. Just throw me a couple of search terms to use and I'll track them down myself.

Thanks, guys for sharing and a belated Happy Birthday, Darren!

Great weekend

It was such a lovely weekend and had the bonus of being able to pop in and see my folks who only live 5 miles away. The only downside to that was I missed out on the pies which smelt delicious.

Finally, I got to see a keymatic working and just loved how all of Richards machines a built like tanks. Mike's cake for Darren was superb and the finger fancies - well can't wait for some more of them. Hope you get them fully up and running soon Richard

Weekend in Durham

It was a wonderful weekend, but as always, the time shot by far too quickly. Richard is a great host who made up completely at home in his lovely house - his vintage kitchen has been featured here already - and lots of interesting things, we could have been there a week and I doubt we would have seen all of them.

What Mike's photos dont show is the dedication of the lads to get that Keymatic pump working, although they were working under cover it was cold and wet and I was seriously impressed by their determination to do the work. It was grand to get back into Richard's lovely warm living room after.

@ warmsecondrinse

As regards the twin tubs, it depended on the machine and more particularly the heater rating - although a few twin tubs could be had without heaters most had them. With the Hotpoint and Hoover, as far as I recall it was not possible to heat the water and wash/spin at the same time. With the Servis (or at least the later versions) and other machines it was sometimes possible - you would hardly have been rinsing and spinning when heating the water from cold, but perhaps bring the already hot water back up to temperature after one or two loads had been washed. i cannot think of a single twin tub where it was not possible to be rinsing/spinning once load while washing another.

I imagine the AEG rinsing would have been similar to that on at least some of teh Easy twin tubs.

The Kenwood dishwasher was designed for various locations - it is somewhat smaller that the standard 2ft x 2ft footprint but could be used on the floor (there was an additional wheel set which raised the height a little), had a bracket available to hang it on the wall, and I have seen several pictures of it built in at eye level. See the picture below. It would not be difficult to build in a dishwasher at a raised level (at least one regular poster here has done so) - indeed i am contemplating doing the same thing as and when i re-do my kitchen - I think the problem about doing so is whether you can sacrifice the 2ft x 2ft of counter space to do so.

The Kenwood is unusual in that it uses a propeller action to drive the water, it must surely have been among the last (introduced circa 1966) to have used one.

The community did not have a lot of hookups, but needs must and we were able to do what was needed - all our imaginations were working full time on how such a great space could be adopted for the display of old appliances LOL

can't Waite to see the Bendix Model D up and running, very grand machines...

Nice to see everyone have a good time.

@vacbear58

Thanks for the info.

On my first trip to visit cousins in Poland in '83, I saw what a difference 240v can make compared to 120v regarding plug-in appliances. It's been a silly fascination ever since, lol.

Although I'm not too terribly tall (184), arthritis and other issues make me fantasize about having a kitchen designed for a guy who's  195. I'm always on the lookout for ways to make that happen. I swear my spine tingling with glee when I saw that Kenwood on the counter.

Thanks again.
