Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Mid 60s RCA Whirlpool Gas Range

This model would have a Florescent Lighted back guard.

WP built these ranges themselves and they were interesting ranges that had a lot of innovative features, overall I would probably take a Caloric or Tappan gas range over a WP range during this time period for overall quality.

I love how the gas range industry in their desperation to compete with the beating they were getting from electric ranges used terms in their ads that gas ranges were cool and clean to cook on, LOL.

I bought a Whirlpool

Electric like this once, When I saw the oven had NO VENT, I parted it out!Cheapest built thing I ever saw.Even a Kenmore has a oven vent!

Yes

Everything did that far back, I don't think electronic ignition was popular until the 70s, Norge had a push button electric igniter briefly in the early 50s but it never caught on, Detroit Jewel had a electric glow coil igniter in the late 30s but it never caught on either.

If you have access to the Searcholator feature, I believe you can put Blanket of Flame in and find earlier discussions.

Any myths about cooler gas cooking are laid to rest when you get a load of the size of the oven vent in that range or any gas range.  Compare that to the 1.75 inch diameter round oven vent in electric ranges which only need an oven vent to equalize the expansion of heated air and carry off moisture.

Brown was another producer of non-vented electric ovens.

I remember reading about them on here.

Also I remember that Whirlpool electric range you got with no vent.

And I also remember reading about a Sunray electric range someone had which also had no vent and the moisture would come out under the door.
