I am not sure if this has been brought up before or not but thought this was worth sharing. A couple of years ago I stumbled upon "Institutional Wisk" on a janitorial supply website. From the tiny picture it appeared to be packaged in the same big red bottles of the 70's, 80's, and early 90's. I opened the link and sure enough it was the same style bottle. Well needless to say my heart skipped a beat or three. lol. The product data specified that it was manufactured by Johnson Diversey. I thought to myself "could this be the same Wisk from my childhood? That glorious smelling blue-purple liquid?" Well I almost ordered it but one had to purchase 2 two gallon bottles and at the price... I was just afraid it was going to be the same stuff I could buy at the grocery store. So I decided to pass.

Fast forward to this past Monday night. I was trolling around looking at detergents and I thought I'd check and see if the Institutional Wisk was still available. Well lo and behold it was and I found it on sale at ReStockIt.com. It still said made by Johnson Diversey. So I bit the bullet and ordered the stuff. Hoping and praying that it was the original product. While there I also ordered a 17 lbs bucket of ALL Professional. Hoping it too was the same as the powder that I remembered. This morning I received an email confirmation that my order had shipped and was out for delivery. Like a kid on Christmas Eve I was anxious waiting for the UPS man.

So at 5:30 he pulls up and delivers the goods. Here was the moment of truth as I tore open the box.....I was crestfallen to see the a translucent bottle which looked like it might be the new stuff but, when I opened that bottle and had a whiff.....I was in HEAVEN!!! This is the same Wisk from my childhood. Same color, same fragrance! Next I cracked open the ALL and that too was the same. I still can't quite believe it. I have taken a few pics with my iPhone of the products to share. For all of my detergent junkie friends out there who may like the old Wisk and ALL, fear not, it's still out there. You just have to pay a little bit for it. LOL.

Wisk & FL washer

@RP283: I have a Maytag Epic ( rebadged Duet ) and so far, not having a problem. Mind you, I have only washed two loads with it. We have water hardness that's about 7 gpg and with 1/4 cup measure for light to normally soiled load, sudsing does not seem to bad. The water in the second rinse only had a few bubbles in it. So, hopefully this continues to work out well. :-)

@Yogi: I really miss Fresh Start as well.

Well, CRAP!

Here I was just posting about using up my stash before buying any more detergent, and it turns out they have the real wisk?

I may not be able to wait much longer!!!

Do either of these products contain phosphates?[this post was last edited: 2/22/2012-22:02]

Thanks for the FL advice.  I may have to spring for some Wisk after all!  I've found that new Wisk HE is more sudsy than other liquids or powders, so am glad to hear that Real Wisk seems to be FL-friendly.

Phosphates

@westtexman: Neither product contains phosphates. They seem not to need them anyways; they clean very well. Even stain on my red apron I wear in the kitchen the Wisk removed. I know what you mean about trying to clear out your stash. I was doing well until I bought these two beauties, lol.

@rp2813: I tried to like the new Wisk, but I just can't get past the fragrance. Plus, to me at least, it does not clean as well as the original. A little of the original Wisk goes a long way. The dosage instructions call for a 1/2 cup per standard size load and 3/4 cup for a heavily soiled or very large load. Last night I used between 1/8 to 1/4 cup and had just the right level of suds. By the second rinse the water was pretty clear. These loads consisted of mainly poly/cotton blends with light to normal soil and were only half tubs of a 4.0 cu.ft drum. That may help in determining how much you should dose in your machine if you decide to purchase it.

Very cool - I miss the original "all" as well.  My grandmother had a red bottle of Wisk in the cabinet that was only used for pre-treating on rare occasions.

Re-Stockit also has Fresh Start - from Phoenix brands.  They used to carry it at one of our local grocery stores, but it has disappeared from the shelves now, but it could probably still be ordered.

I ordered some of the Cascade w/phosphates and chlorine bleach from Re-Stockit and the shipping seemed lightning fast.

A coupon!!

It seems like it would be easy to spend $100 at this site. So, if anyone wants the Fresh Start, Wisk, All, Cascade, or whatever, and you spend over $100, use coupon code 'keep10' in the checkout process and they will knock off 10 bucks.

I happened to see that on a rotating ad that was on my main page as I looked around.
