I don’t use my blender that often but I seen this Vita Mix Super 5000 at my local goodwill for $10 and had to bring it home. I know these are quite expensive new but otherwise I don’t know much about them? Any info on Vita Mix or what to do with it? It does work, though the lid is missing so either i will have to figure out a lid or get an entirely new blending jar.

You can get a lid from VitaMix-but what condition is the jar---Maybe better to replace the jar ,too.A new jar with lid, blades should run about $200.Worth it.It will last a long time for an occasional user.VM blenders wether for home use or commercial -all are built to commercial standards. You got a BARGAIN there-comparaible new VM would be 400-500 bucks.

Well it was my lucky day again. I went back to the goodwill about a week after getting the Vita Mix and what did I see sitting on the shelf…the dry blending jar and the lid! Should have been sold at a set with the base but that’s ok I paid a few more dollars and now I have both jars and a lid. Both jars are in good shape so now it won’t be necessary to buy a very expensive replacement. I did make some soup with it the other day, and I gotta say you could blend a brick with this thing. Will have to figure out some more things to do with it.

I've heard these machines can whip up everything from soup to nuts, including ice cream.  I've just never found them attractive enough to keep on the counter, have been skeptical about their build quality, and would never in a million years pay full price for one.   I also prefer glass carafes over plastic.

It seems like you found a good one, and congratulations on your successful return trip.  I agree that the second carafe and lid should have been included in the package, but unless they were all donated in their own box or otherwise kept together, separation was bound to happen.  About the only things I ever see sold in sets at thrift stores are dishware pieces.
