Have an Amana VMW about 5 years old.  When doing a heavy mixed load (king sheets and bath towels with a few pair of underwear/socks), I get a few bangs (up to about 30 seconds) while entering spin before everything smooths out and the cycle continues.

My 15 year old Kenmore DD in Detroit....if it bangs it doesn't smooth out.  Is it just a difference in the downward suspended versus base-supported suspension?

Literally I can't even get out to the garage to look at it before it smooths out.  I think it alarms my husband---I think I've got it figured out.  Doesn't particularly walk across the floor or anything--just a few bangs.

I suppose it depends what kind of sheets/fabric but generally isn't a good idea to wash sheets (relatively light-weight fabric) with heavy absorbent bath towels.  I often wash button-down shirts with sheets, essentially the same fabric weight.

But, yeah, suspension differences, and VMW doesn't have a slipping spin-clutch so revs-up to speed more quickly than a DD.  The VMW gyroscopic-balance probably is settling after extracting some water from the towels.

Suspension rods. Change those all the time on these VMWs, just did them today on a WTW4800XQ2 made on 29th week of 2012 violently shaking and an Amana NTW4600YQ1 with the same problem.

I also recently did one on a 2018 Whirlpool WTW4816FW2. This is the most common failure mode on the agitator style VMWs with the porcelain tub and go to the internet and you see a ton of them banging due to this failure, especially the older models.

Although it can also be the tub that’s causing the issue, I’ve seen that too. Neu’s basket bushing is only compatible with models using the stainless steel drum.

I do change suspension rods on stainless steel VMWs, older floating tub units, and VMAX’s as well. Suspension rod failures are common in newer washers, regardless of the brand.
