1800 miles, 130 gallons of premium fuel, and 6.0 litres on a mission, starting Tuesday. That's a size thirteen-double wide carbon footprint!

The Grey Lady is ready!

That isn't a car ,its a land yacht.
What year is it?
I bet it has the smoothest ride

It beats the xBox!

Thanks, guys! (I was pondering the hood ornament/built-in sundial myself :-) ).

She's a 1981 deVille d'Elegance, which means that you get more cursive script in more places ;-). It has a very smooth ride, made more so by the freshly balanced tires.

19.5 feet of pure driving satisfaction, heading to Omaha, then to Kansas City...

Is this the big move, then, Nate? Hope you have a great trip; Good traveling karma to you!

I drove my friend Cheryl out to Sacramento in her '80 Caddie, then moved her back to MN six years later in the same car. Both trips were luxury rides and I'm sure yours will be the same. With far more expensive fuel, unfortunately, LOL!

Queen Mary

Sorry for the late reply; I was out on the upper deck getting a tan ;-) Fortunately, the pool is mostly spotless and the pool-coating on these Caddies is impeccable. The built-in kitchen has seen its better days, but I figure I'll update it.

That's awesome, Eugene--thank you for the good karma and the happy thoughts that I'll make it in one piece! I got AAA just in case (not having it begs for disaster), but I think she'll be okay. She loves freeways and despises in-town driving, so this should be the Grey Lady in her element.

Yes, gas is, uh, a touch more expensive, but her fuel economy on the freeway is decent. And, as we depart from California, fuel will get cheaper--an unexpected additional treat! :-)

Nate, I was wondering if you'd drive this cross country. You going to keep the Sion too somehow? Somehow in all of this, we desperately need to catch up. Bob

Safe Journies

What a wonderful trip you'll have. Back around 1981 I moved from San Francisco to Kansas City as well. That time was in my 1966 Fleetwood Brougham. Car was fully loaded, including my Russian Wolfhound. Your trip brings back some fun memories.

Plus Kansas City is just great. If I had to move again, I would consider moving back here. Great houses and excellent garage sales.

Yay!

Glad to see the preparations are underway! I'm glad it's coming up soon as I've been inviting scads of people to your first wash-in ;-)

I guess I didn't get the whole tour of the land-yacht when I was rolling with you last year. A pool and a full kitchen - wow, a kitchen re-do will certainly eliminate the remnants of those Fry Daddy days gone by!

Whee!

Bob -- Definitely, we have much catching-up to do. I keep trying to find phone time in the midst of all this packing (we're down to the random-crap-that-gets-shoved-in-a-box now), but I'm starting to lose faith that it'll come together until after the move...so I'll try to set aside a day and do nothing but stay tethered to the phone charger :-)

As for the Scion, no, I sold it--today, in fact! Who needs fuel-efficient cars these days, anyway?

*crickets chirp* :-)

Mike--Oooooh, a Fleetwood--that sounds LOVELY! That must have been such a fun trip!

Greg--LOL You're fabulous. And yes, I must admit, when we rolled in the Caddy, I only had you in the living room. The downstairs was a mess, so I didn't show you. (I apologize.) ;-)

*sob*

When I had the transmission rebuilt, it stopped working because the tech didn't know how the system worked. We pored over the service manual for an hour, but now it only modulates cylinders in second gear, so that won't work for me...in third, it stays in eight cylinders all the time.

*sigh*

Nate - it will be good to have another reason for a wash-in here in the Midwest!

So hurry up and get that Coupe over here STAT! Even if it is on all 8 cylinders - but I guess it doesn't matter with the A/C on ;-)
