"Don't just love modern technology? ;-)"
Not very often, to be honest.
The two plusses I see with newer printers:
-They are faster. That may or may not be a plus. When I print, I don't usually need it fast, so speed isn't that big a deal. But my ex-roommate ran a business, and had to print single pages, and wanted it ASAP to keep the work flow moving smoothly. In that case, a modern Brother that coughed up the whole print run before an older laser printer even got started was a plus.
-I think color, at least color that's affordable, has improved.
But for me, I don't need instant printing. I've never had color (apart from one experiment with a Apple ImageWriter II--II had a color ribbon one time for that. But the color was too crude, and the ribbon was too expensive.)
What I do need is good, sharp printing...and even early laser printers have that. For that matter, a daisy wheel printer from the early 80s would work, although I do love non-typewriter-like fonts.
The other thing I like is durability.
