Wall Mounted Toilets

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

If you have the room you can frame out the wall with 2x6 stock. There really isn't any " precision" plumbing involved, just regular everyday plumbing, the waste line is moved back 12" or so.

Gerber

is a fairly popular brand of toilets and bathroom fixtures in these parts.  Due to some water damage we are having our main bathroom repaired and updated.  I had a Crane toilet in this bathroom and my plumber is replacing it this very day with a Kohler toilet.  We did not like the Crane toilet...too hard to clean.  I have always had good results with Kohler.  My wife and I looked at American Standard but our plumber, who is a good friend and we trust, stated American Standard is not a good a product as it used to be and agreed the Kohler would be a better toilet.  I think a wall mounted toilet would be great and if I ever get a shop I'm having a urinal installed in it.

Precision plumbing

When researching on line, I found several comments about proper alignment of the waste pipe to accommodate the mounting limitations for the toilet.  The comments indicated that with a floor mount, there's less of an issue if the waste pipe is slightly off, but in the case of a wall mount, it needs to be dead-on or leaks are pretty much guaranteed.

Perhaps "precision" was the wrong term, but the importance of avoiding a sloppy plumber is a key consideration.

I would imagine that a wall mount urinal wouldn't need as large a water supply pipe as a wall mount toilet, since it's only flushing away liquids. Also most modern wall mount urinals I've used seem to have rather anemic flush flow anyway. Also a small tank sufficient for flushing a urinal could easily be incorporated into a one piece wall urinal setup.

For a wall mount toilet, as previously mentioned, a separate wall mount tank would probably be best. It could also provide extra gravity force if it's mounted a few feet above the commode. I remember seeing photos of really old indoor toilets with the tanks mounted way up high, and the flush activated by a pull chain.

I also thought that the existing exterior wall could be doubled up with 2x6's to provide not only the extra rigidity but also the weird spacing (17" OC, really?) and room for the DWV piping. I'd however be a little concerned that the DWV pipe might still need to cut into the floor sill plate, so that might need to be reinforced at that spot to compensate.

Kohler

Good luck with the Kohler line. Our landlord replaced both of our toilets with middle of the line Kohler comfort height toilets. The finish is horrible. Even with soft water, after four day's use, both will develop a black ring, that looks like mold and mildew. It washes off easily enough, however requires constant cleaning. Never again!
Hugs,
David

I think you'll make the right decision if you take a wall mounted model.

You can easily mop the floor under it.

The wall mounted tank is a Geberit, I guess the toilet is also from the same brand.
