lol! If Fox reported it, Cronkite might still be alive and well!

Really Sad:

Cronkite was the last of the old-school TV journalists, and I will miss him, as I miss David Brinkley and some others. Since Cronkite left the airwaves, there has been no one working at the same standard of excellence and trustworthiness.

And that's the way it is...

Sad, another of the greats gone. Another I miss is Peter Jennings, he was a class act in Cronkite's mold.
I can't think of any of the current crop of new people who have the same gravitas.

I liked Cronkite. He was one of the first casualties of the rise of the Fourth Estate in the U.S., when news anchors were converted from active editors into mere copy readers. He was often grilled for his "And that's the way it is" sign-off, Tom Lehrer's "That Was The Year That Was" album in 1967 is one example.

R.I.P. Walter

He really cared for everybody

walter Cronkite was an original. He was not only in tune with adults but was also able to reach children to get their views on curent event which would help them to grow a more mature life and understand more clearly the world around them.I don't remember the name of the show that came on on Saturdays after all the cartoos were over but it had a sort of class that would explain a bit about correct English, spelling and meaning of words in a sort of Punny way.Inbetween the different spots,Walter would come on and speak about current events to a younger group of kids who adored him.No candy coating and no bullshit.I already missed seeing him on CBS nightly news years ago after his semi-retirement.R.I.P. Uncle Wal,R.I.P.

To me Walter was an icon of the 60's and the voice of the Vietnam War. I remember his nightly broadcasts about the latest news from Vietnam.

In fact any great news event was made better by his commentary.
