Want to fix Maytag CA206 washing machine

I have (and use) a Maytag CA206 washing machine. It is squeaking rather badly and leaking some water out the bottom (not much, but it gets the floor wet).

I need to find a manual for it and then I can start to fix it.

My professional work is: Technical Writer, writing the operating manuals for very large agricultural equipment.

If anyone wants pictures or a write up of what I do to fix the problem(s) let me know.

Once that is done, I need to replace the timer on a Maytag CDG306 Dryer.

Is there any way to repair chipped enamel? Both machines are coppertone.

Pull the front of the washer off, and see where the leak, and squeak originate. You can operate the machine CAREFULLY with the front off.

Do you have the timer located for the dryer? I'm scrapping a HDE 307 dryer, should be the same dryer. It's supposed to work. Let me know before tomorrow, and I'll pull the timer off.

Could you also grab the Bakelite blower if it's not too much trouble? These are NLA. (Actually I could use the spider too).

If it's too much work, it's not a super-high priority for me.

The timer on the dryer turns. It just won't shut off. Let me know what you would like for the one from the machine you are scrapping and I will be glad to buy it and pay the shipping.

When I saw your note, I picked up the camera and went over to my Mom's place (I own it now) and shot the two little beasts for you. Our two big Amanas are out of commission, but the little Maytags just keep chugging along.

As a tease, are any of you familiar with Servel? When I was growing up we had a Servel refrigerator. It was the most quiet and wonderful refrigerator I have ever known. Don't have it any more, but wouldn't mind having another. It ran on gas and had one moving part, the gas valve.

The blower is one of the things wrong with this dryer. Had a cracked fin.

Thanks for checking on the shipping. My wife will be using both Maytags tomorrow doing mid-week laundry.

My goal is to put both machines back in first class shape. That was why I wanted to get a service manual for each.

I also need to repair a chip in the enamel on the washing machine. I have had experience with china mending materials. They are very hard and impervious to most substances when dry. You build up a coat in several applications. That would work well since the enamel on these machines is darker on the corners and edges than it is in the panel areas.

Judging by the tub, it looks like that CA206 has lead an easy life. Always a good sign!

It has had a long and good life, nothing terrible gone through it. Mostly it just had the clothes from a school teacher, lab technician and two city boys. We were always careful what we put in it. There was not the money to buy another pair of machines. So we took good care of them.

Natural Gas has been cheaper than electricity out here so that was the type of dryer we got.

Have you had a chance to narrow down the leak? Just remove the 2 Phillip screw near the bottom of the front panel (they're hiding underneath that lip at the edges of the front panel) and lift the front panel up 90 degrees (this disengages the top clips). Very quick and easy to do! From there, do a small load of clothes (or just use water) and look for leaks while the machine is agitating/spinning (be careful of the transmission while it's in the spin mode!!).

Hopefully it's just a leaky hose, but it may be time to replace the stem and seal.

Is the spin cycle noisy? If not, the tub bearing should still be fine.
