All,

I'm looking for the Maytag/Whirlpool Brake removal tool pictured below. Maytag no longer sells it and I can't find it anywhere on nets. Anyone have one that they want to sell? Alternatively, if you want to keep your tool, would you mind sending me some dimensions? Thanks! I'm trying to help my dad fix his machine.

Those things turn up on eBay with some regularity,

but John(combo52)recommends using a pair of vice grips clamped on to the edge of the brake assembly and then whacking the side of the vice grips with a plastic hammer to knock the brake loose. He works on these machines for a living and says that tool is clunky and awkward to use. I have this tool but I've never had an opportunity to use it. Still, I'd trust him on this.

MT Brake Remover Tool

Wow $60+ for a nearly useless tool that is a little dangerous to use.

I should have tried selling the three I threw in the scrap bin a year or so ago, but I could not sell one in good conscience.

When using a Vice-Grip to remove MT Brake you might have to use more than a plastic mallet, but I have never had one put up much of a struggle unless the whole machine sat in a foot of water and the threads are too corroded to remove in which case the damper and the steel washer base are toast anyway.

These used to be everywhere - and by "used to", I mean just a few years ago. It's crazy that they have completely disappeared so quickly.

It looks like that eBay seller might be manufacturing them? The design is slightly different than the typical one, and 91 is quite a large quantity to have had.
