WANTING A WESTINGHOUSE RANGE!

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Now AC

Is something I will NOT do without!!!!I hate and despise hot weather!!LOL..Really though, I don't dirty up a oven that much, I never broil anything and rarely roast anything uncovered..A turkey or something of that nature I cook in a vintage electric roaster.

Never had a self-cleaning oven feature break. Is that luck? We have a GE Stove (from the early 80's) with a self-cleaning feature. The oven lamp broke and a we've had to replace the panel light…and that's all. The self-cleaning feature is a dream.

But Hans - you sound like my mom. She wanted a car…with no power windows, no radio(my dad got that changed) and not much of anything that made life too easy or comfortable for us …in fact, air conditioning came very late to our house, compared to other homes. My mom insisted, "more things to break and I don't mind as long as we have a fan."

If not for my mom's attitude, it's hard to understand why someone wouldn't want the conveniences.

So, sail on Hans - and good luck in your oven quest.

I Guess....

....A lot of it has to do with how one likes to cook.

I like a fair number of things that are spattery - meat loaves, roast chickens, ham, baked pork chops, etc. And I vastly prefer open roasting to covered roasting. So, self-cleaning is nice for those.

But there is one thing above all others that makes self-cleaning desirable to me - turkey. Now, I like a few slices of turkey breast as much as the next person, maybe more, but I hatehatehatehateHATE the smell of a turkey roasting, which hangs in the house until the oven is cleaned and the house is well aired.

For banishing turkey odors alone, self-cleaning is worth it. There has been many a Thanksgiving where I did without turkey rather than deal with that smell. A poorly-maintained outhouse smells like Chanel No. 5 compared to the stench of a turkey roasting.

TURKEY!!!

I LOVE the smell of a turkey roasting!!I do make meat loaves and occasionally will fix pork chops and roast chicken, but I always use a low temperature to reduce spattering. But NOTHING smells like Thanksgiving or CHRISTMAS like a turkey roasting!

RE Air conditioning..

We ALWAYS had window units when I was growing up...Dad hated air cond. but he was over ruled by my Mother and I....and Dr Frazier my allergy doctor who said NEVER open a window!!! And to this day I don't!!!We didn't have a dishwasher and there is not enough money in the world to make me do without one..We got our first microwave in 78 and I regard it as something that takes up counter space...I have one but don't like it or use it for anything more than melting butter or warming up food.

re: Big, Wide 'I LOVE LUCY' stove:

Like I said: The Ricardos had it in their apartment, and I'm sure sooner or later Fred Mertz bought one (after finding one at some Used Appliance Joint!) for Ethel, years later...
