Stopped by a thrift store today that I frequent
when I'm nearby.

Spotted this alarm/blanket control and it just
had to come home with me. I can say that I've
never seen one of these before and it will work
with the electric blanket I have.

Love the Penncrest logo!

It is just a control and alarm.

The blanket I have has no brand label like Pennys, but
it has the same mfg info as the control.

Automatic Blanket Plant, Smithfield, NC.

I don't think there were too many makers of
electric blankets.

Not quite ready to put it on the bed yet,
but it won't be long. Looks like we may have
had some frost last night in low areas.

There were

MANY electric blankets made in Smithfield, I am not sure but I think that plant is still there, Smithfield is in the eastern part of the state.

Being from a steam heated town, electric blankets always seem foreign and exotic to me, though that controller is just soooo cool!

We love our electric blanket. We use it to preheat the bed in the winter and then when using it we can turn the heat way down. There is nothing like getting into a prewarmed bed in the wintertime. After we get in the bed we turn the blanket down to a "2" or so just to maintain the heat.

I'm not a fan of electric blankets, much prefer electric mattress pads.  That way the heat is rising up, not trying to make it's way down.  I have a lot of my stuff around the house controlled by an X10 controller, have the mattress pad on a timer too, comes on an hour or so before I go to bed.  The bed is nice and toasty, and I have my furnace set to go off at 8PM so the temp in the house can drop into the low 50's by morning, great for a good night's sleep - for me anyway....

I'm with you on the electric mattress pad Matt.  When our first one died my wife found a Sunbeam on clearance 2yrs ago at Penney's.  The Sunbeam doesn't heat up near as much as the first one did however.  I wonder if they've dumbed them down over the years.
