120F

Bob, I can't wait to perform the modification you outlined on my SQ top loader, I'm waiting on the relay to arrive from amazon.com

I've solar hot water heating for my home, on a typical sunny, summer day the tank water temperature will get up to 140F by 4-5 pm.

Yes, I did remove the tempering valve which used to maintain 120F tank water temperature and my family is well aware of the temperature of the hot water, here in Hawaii we normally shower in the evenings, by 8 pm the tank water temperature is about 130F.

My 120 gallon solar hot water tank has a timer which is set to run the heating elements only in the mornings, even then, the thermostat on the heater is set to 120F.

With such an abundance of hot water in the afternoon, we'll normally do laundry then with warm water and still have an adequate supply of hot water for evening showers. Laundry requiring hot water wash (such as whites) are done at this same time period.

The only drawback to this setup is we can't hang our laundry out to dry at that time of day for effective drying, a practice which is a no-brainer in Hawaii, so in the dryer it goes.

My 30 panel PV system with battery backup provides more than adequate energy to power the dryer.

Indeed, I love my monthly electric bill of just $15[this post was last edited: 7/13/2024-13:32]

Energy regs killed laundry. Warm rinse makes sense in the winter where around here the water is close to freezing. If I wanted chilled rinse water I'd be calling for a heat pump in all washers.
