dirty seems to go with "cheap":

" MAYTAG XL high capacity electric clothes dryer - large drum - harvest gold - multi functions - NEEDS Heat Element - includes 3 prong cord for your electric hookup.
Very Nice shape and good condition - simple repair
GENERAL ELECTRIC GE Washing Machine in GREAT working condition - multi function - power cord and drain hose attached - harvest gold -
VERY NICE pair for cheap - "

"Simple Repair" for the dryer?!? You have to take the cabinet off the baseplate and crawl inside it to get to the heating element mounted against the front of the cabinet around the door opening. Jeff was doing that once when the customer came downstairs and could not find him so he popped the door open and stuck his head out. It scared the woman but good.

Where do they get XL capacity for a HOH dryer? A max load from the GE washer would overload the dryer. By the time the cycle was finished, there would be no tumbling room.

Why don't they mention that it needs the door knob also? How do you break that?

Finally, how can a dryer be considered to be in "good condition" when it does not dry because the heating element is broken?

EXACTLY!

Finally, how can a dryer be considered to be in "good condition" when it does not dry because the heating element is broken?

Finally, how can a dryer be considered to be in "good condition" when it does not dry because the heating element is broken?
Because Craigslist is a different zone of reality and terminology.

Good Condition = Intact, perhaps not functional but not broken into numerous smaller pieces.

Like New = Fully functional but beat up and dirty, looks like hell.

I thought I would never see her again...............

I had this washer in white exactly the same one, I was with my grandmother when we bought it brand new in August of 1974, and had it delivered the same day!! It lasted until 1991 with a bad clutch, which made the machine sound like an airplane going through your house. We replaced it with a 1991 model Filter-Flo, only differnce is the new one had a ramp agitator, and one rocker switch for the speed, water level and temp were the middel knobs, and the console was black.
