washer drain hose makes gurgling sounds. Normal?

My front load washer drain hose makes gurgling sounds as the washer goes through its normal washing cycle. as the washer works I keep hearing these gurgling sounds as the washer is working normally. Is it normal to hear gurgling sounds from the drain hose? It sounds like water is sloshing around in the drain hose. Did I hand the drain hose properly when I got this washer a couple of weeks ago? Is there a better way to hang the drain hose?

Just guessing that maybe the drain hose needs a more pronounced bend instead of being strung almost horizontally to the standpipe. 

 

I don't know what an AAV is, but am betting that if the washer was draining into that pipe, the gurgling noise would stop.

you should be able to just hang the drain hose in the pipe without suspending it from the cabinet you have it hanging off of. The drain pipe is above the level of water in the machine so it won't be a problem. So the hose will naturally hang below that water pipe you have the hose running behind right now.  If you are worried about it possibly popping out of the drain you can strap the hose to the drainpipe to anchor it once you put it in place.

 

BTW that white pipe sticking out of the wall that's right behind the sink.....if that is a drain line you should have that capped off or at least temp plugged otherwise you can get raw sewer gases coming out of the pipe....the don't smell good believe me!

AAV

automatic air vent....if it were drained into that pipe, there's no P=trap on that pipe. The AAV allows air to go IN but prevents sewer gas from coming OUT

yes that aav (one way valve) allows air into the drain pipes to follow the water as it goes towards the main sewer. It is what has allowed my washer and newly hooked up laundry tub to drain water quickly again. and the p traps stop all sewer gases from coming back. Yes i will be dismantling the sink that is on the other side of the wall where you see it's drain pipe sticking out a little bit.

I have solved the problem i think. I re-positioned the drain hose so that it is coming out of the back of the machine going straight up first (they don't let it come down on this model) and then across ,behind the aav and over to the 'inverted U' and then into the stack pipe. The inverted U is screwed onto the wall so the drain hose is secure. I noticed the gurgling sounds are pretty much gone after doing this. I think what I was hearing was the water sloshing around in that washer drain pipe that didn't get totally pumped out. Thank you !

Move the AAV!

That AAV should be at the end of the line so that if anything is draining along the drain line, it will allow air back into the whole drain line. As water goes down the line it creates a suction effect which is relieved by the air vent.

The air vent would do more good if you put it where the condensate lines are now and just for now, put the condensate lines inside the tube with the drain from the washer and see if the gurgling stops. Don't forget to cap the line where the AAV originally was. You can always Wye off the washer standpipe so you don't have to add another trap.Again, you should observe all local codes to make sure it is correct and as Rick pointed out above, you don't want sewer gasses leaking back into the house. Even the smell of laundry water in the trap is kind of nasty!

Sometimes it pays to have a licensed plumber hook all this stuff up so it is properly sized, pitched and vented properly.

I could put it where you said , it's true but, the system is working fine the way it is so no reason for me to play around further. no sewer gases coming up any of those open pipes due to the p trap and also the AAV is one way in only. So, problems really solved right now but thanks. the gurgling sound was coming from the washer drain hose since i could put my hand on it and feel the water slosh in there.
