Washer & Dryer $150 - Metro Det. (I think the washer is a 1-18)

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I'm guessing here...

But I think that is a "WCI" built Frigidaire. It might be marketed as a 1-18 washer, but it didn't have the "up & down" agitation. This this had the regular back & forth agitation.
I hope you understand what I'm trying to say...
LOL

In other words, I don't think this is a GM Frigidaire "thumper"
:o|

The seller didn't advertise as such, I am going by the look of the control panel, it looks like many 1970s Up and down models. I thought when WCI bought Frigidaire from GM they basically re-badged their Kelvinator/White-Westinghouse design to be Frigidaire.

If I'm remember correctly here...

I'm sure I've read here in the group, that WCI made the Frigidaire 1-18 washer that looked the same as the GM Frigidaire 1-18 washer, with the same control panel look. And if I'm remembering right, the only way you can tell the difference is that;
On the WCI Frigidaire:
The front panel is smooth

On the GM Frigidaire:
There is a line across the front panel, that lined-up/matched with the GM Frigidaire dryer door.

And another difference between the GM & WCI was the (now forgive my wording here because I don't know the proper terms but) the finger indentation for the lid opening.

I can't remember right now which is which but, one had the finger indentation only part way across the opening of the lid, from the front side of the machine.
And the other had the finger indentation across the whole opening of the lid.

I really hope you can understand ebay I'm trying to say. But I have seen comparison pictures showing the difference between both maker's Frigidaire 1-18 models.

That washer is indeed a WCI machine and not a GM built Frigidaire. WCI made these machines right after their take over, so probably around 1980. They were just a clone of what the Westinghouse top load machine had evolved to by then.[this post was last edited: 3/23/2017-05:12]

this might help identify better for the future.....

GM 1-18 lids only opened from the side.....NEVER rear hinge opening...

WCI did a few confusing ones during the first takeover....side opening lid, and a window.....until you got up close, or looked inside, those may trick you a bit...
