ok so i spent a small fortune on a very nice Sony Cybershot 6MP DSCS600 digi cam.

Im working on XP.

When i put the pic i want into a thread via upload jpeg section, browse for the pic i want in the sonymemorystick file it wont upload the pic when i hit preview message. WHY?????

Jon in our phone chat you mentioned pic size???? how do i change it?

Also how do i get the Hotpoint Vids i am making at the min up?

Did some new ones as i sounded awful with the commentary. didnt realise how Northern I sound.
Some Bolton and Yorkshire accents in there for some reason lmao. where thats come from i dont know.

I have a Sony camera, too. If we were in first grade, we might understand this stuff better.

I set my pixel size to the lowest setting -- I think the book says this is best for e-mailing.

XP nearly drove me knuts, but I'm beginning to be able to move around in it after 2 years.

Are you getting any messages?? I need more a little more info than that in order to be able to help.
 
Confused.com

no messages. the status bar shows its conecting to the internet but sticks on the last bar. does not budge for love nor money. have to go back to previous page.

Ive not installed the camera as the guy in Jessops (camera shop chain in the UK) said it would just come up in my files?????

I may be 22 years old/young and i cant beleive a computer has got the better of me.

This is why i hate digital "press button washers". Give me a simple click dial anyday.

Looks like im back to junior school, wonder if its too late to start with the new term ,lol.

I would install the camera if I was you. Judging by my MP3 player Sony can be a bit of a nightmare uploading. If you want to uninstall it that should be possible. You may find there is a way to compress the file in this program. If you right click over the file and select properties it will tell you how large the file is.

Also you can reduce file size by dropping the number of colors to 256. Most people can't tell the difference between 256 and 1.6 Million colors in photos on the web, but it sure does reduce the file size by quite a bit, at least 50% usually. And as a bonus, the photos load much, much faster once they arrive. People with dial up connections will thank you.
Most good graphics program can do this color level adjustment.
The comment above about saving it to your hard disk first is spot on.
 
You probably don't need to install the camera, but should be able to copy the files from the memory stick to a folder on your hard drive. Then you should be able to upload them.
 
Computer Tech Stuff

I've never tried uploading a picture direct from a Memory Stick. I always move the files off the Stick to a folder on my hard drive.

Depending on the native resolution of the camera and what image-type you have it set to (.jpg or .tif, or whatever else it offers) the files can be large. My 4 MP camera at standard resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels generates .jpg files of about 550 KB. It can also generate .tif files which are MUCH larger. Pictures uploaded here for viewing don't need to be that large. High resolution images are needed only as an original source for doing photo editing work.

I use Paint Shop Pro (PSP) for editing, cropping, resizing, etc. The software package included with most cameras (and scanners for that matter) include some sort of photo editing software. Just a matter of learning how to use it.

I place a shortcut to PSP in the SendTo folder in my Windows user profile. Then I can right-click on an image file anywhere on my computer and quickly "SendTo Paint Shop Pro" which launches the program and opens the file in it. Resize it to 800x600 or 640x480 pixels, tweak the brightness/contrast/sharpness if needed, and resave it as a .jpg under a different file name (so as to not overwrite the original) with about 20% compression. The .jpg file type supports built-in adjustable file compression. Smaller physical file size and image resolution takes less storage space on the server and less network bandwith when viewed.
 
I usually resize to 800 x 600, and at least for me that's the size of picture that will upload to this site.

Picture size can be changed in any imaging software - I just use the standard Windows Picture Manager (which should be standard with XP), hit the Edit Picture tab at the top, then the Resize tab at the side, and then in the two white boxes type in the resolution there.

so i just transfer them to youtube?

then add a link onto my thread?

youtube is taking ages to upload and sticks yet again on the last status bar notch. will try again at the local library tommorow.

i also dont appear to have Windows picture manager or anything where i can trim 5 minutes off my first video as its too big to put onto youtube. need to cut a part out where i drone on about my detergent selection/stock. lol.

i have multimedia player though which is as useful as a chocolate teapot.
