Hey everyone I have a 1979 GE washer and dryer set I bought for $25 each 8 years ago and the washer needed a new water inlet valve. While I had the back cover off I sprayed the belt with belt dressing and put a shot of WD-40 on a few moving parts. A few weeks go by and we did a load of whites only to find that some of the clothes has speckles of dark grease. I lifted the agitator off and saw the top of the shaft has some oil on it and wasn’t sure if that was normal. I’m guessing the WD-40 either worked it’s way up the shaft or water is getting into the shaft forcing oil out.

We had GE Filter-Flo washers when I was growing up. Dad was a GE service tech, and Mom was a registered nurse. About every 5 years mom's white nursing uniforms started to get oil spots on them, and then dad would replace the transmission in the washing machine.
probably best to replace the transmission....relatively easy task...

This had nothing to due with you spraying WD-40 on things.
GE FF washers were like air-cooled VWs back in the day, you replaced the engines in VWs and transmissions in GE washers often and both companies had good factory remanufactured units available at the time.
You can either try rebuilding your transmission [ big messy job ] or find a good used one or another machine.
