I saw this episode of Floyd Cooks on Saturday Kitchen Best Bites. I noticed a washing machine in the background, but couldn't determine what it was. You can see it several times, first when she puts the fish into the oven and later when they are sitting at the table. Can anyone tell me what kind of washing machine it is?

They were manufactured by a company called Riber in Italy under various brands.

In Ireland they were the Thor 850XD, in the UK Coleston 850XD and then eventually Ariston.

I don't know how much they cost. I got the machine because my friends mum had just got a new kitchen and her husband wouldn't pay for a new washer as they had had it for 15years and never broken so she pulled the door seal off in the end so it flooded the kitchen so she could get a new one lol. Very very heavy machine. The dryer was good. On the back of the machine it had a vent with a small lint filter to clean

My grandparents had the washer only version of this Colston. It seems to have been quite rare as I've only seen examples of the washer dryer since. Anyone else seen one?

Hi Louis.

I have two of these machines, the older of the two (branded COLSTON) being collected a couple of years ago, from another part of Derby.

It debuted a couple of months ago at a 'do' myself and Rob had, where it put in a rather unbalanced performance and had to be rescued. Still, these old machines are built of tougher stuff than the newer and no damage done - phew ....

and here is the slightly younger machine, manufactured after Ariston absorbed Colston and machines received dual branding.
This machine was picked up from Blackpool about four years ago and has yet to be tested ....

these machines were rear venting through grill so, unless she had a further vent at the back of her worksurface, I bet her back wall looked lovely ...

I hope so too Louis.

I think you were able to get proper venting kits for these machines, at extra cost. Am sure she will have had a proper arrangement.

Paul
